The New York Islanders have acquired from the Montreal Canadiens their compensatory second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft as well as a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman James Wisniewski.

The Canadiens acquired the compensatory pick after not signing their former first round pick, David Fisher.

The Canton, Michigan native joined the Islanders on July 30 through a trade from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional third round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Wisniewski played in 32 of the Islanders 34 games this season, recording 21 points (three goals and 18 assists).

Last season with Anaheim, Wisniewski finished second among Ducks defensemen in scoring with a career-high 30 points (three goals and 27 assists) in 69 games. He also led the Ducks in blocked shots with 102, ranked second on the team with 129 hits and finished fourth among skaters in average ice time at 24:20. Wisniewski was Chicago’s fifth round selection (156th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

We got him for a 3rd, so to get a 2nd and 5th rounder for him is progress, I guess.

And our already weak defense just got weaker...

Someone who was VOCAL is gone, spoke his mind, another veteran who is actually decent gone, started to play better, wouldve been worth more at the deadline, no? Snow sucks. THe return of Brutal Gervais to everyday duty. Sh*t by any other name is still sh*t. So much for the dynamic duo of Streit & Wiz on the PP at some point, Snow was frothing over this when talking about Streit being injured. Guess random picks in a weak draft means more to Snowjob.

Does anybody see a pattern developing here?

Any veteran player that this team acquires that has spent considerable time in other organizations either doesn't stay here long or falls out of favor with the organization quickly.

Guerin, Smyth, Comrie, Witt, Wisniewski, Roloson, Biron

This organization is a disgrace. I'm not overrating Wiz, but the fact that he was traded long before the deadline shows me they wanted to get him the hell out of here. And why? I have no desire to make any sense of this. One of two things happened:

1. He openly criticized management in front of the team.

2. They wanted him to sign an extension and he told them to go to hell.

Either way, this is pitiful.

Snowman...this is the real reason why noone signs here....not the building, you hit the nail on the head. Our stupid GM, stupid owner, lack of organizational personnel is a joke. Wiz spoke out in his quotes to reporters, I wonder how bad his statements were off the record? JT cant leave soon enough I bet.

Is it spring training yet?
Who cares? He was out of here after this season. We weren't winning with him and won't win without him. He was playing better as of late perhaps we could have gotten more at the deadline. People are mentioning on twitter we might pick up Rolston tomorrow on re-entry waivers. Ugh.

If he was leaving at the end of the season, shouldn't we be happy we got SOMETHING for him. Not only that, but we got a 2nd and 5th round picks for a 3rd.

My question is: what does this do for the salary cap floor? Weren't we at the floor with him? Now, without him, I assume we are now below the floor.

Is this a move to clear out space for another deal?

this organization is a circus. And Wang wonders why no one takes him seriously when it comes to giving him a decent deal with the land and arena. Dropping a guy for picks this early is a joke. F Snow. F Wang. F any more money coming from my pockets. Let's build for 2020. :disgraced:

Some reporter, or Bettman needs to ask Wang/Snow etc when they use the building as an excuse that perhaps their bonehead moves and not the bldg why people dont sign here
