Has anybody realized that four of our 2008 draft picks are in the NHL right now? Bailey, Hamonic, Poulin... and Jared Spurgeon. Only thing is, he's playing for the Minnesota Wild. His stats aren't overly impressive and he's small, but he is a +3. Why the hell wasn't he signed? |

We have discarded players from other organizations. Guess he just wasn't a fit plain and simple. I don't think Garth is losing any sleep seeing him play for the Wild. Check in on him in a couple seasons to see if it was a mistake letting him go. |

Your point is solid lynskyn. I know that just by the sheer numbers we couldn't sign all 13 of those draft picks. Six of the 13 players in Bailey, Poulin, Martin, Ullstrom, DiBenedetto, and Hamonic are on NYI or Bridgeport. Two players are destined to be here at some point in Donovan and Petrov. One player (Niemi) was traded to the Rangers and plays in Hartford. That leaves David Toews, Cory Trivino, and Aaron Ness. Again, not sure what the deal is as far as being able to sign all of these players, but Ness seems like he's a surefire bust and Trivino isn't far behind. Toews seems to have resurrected his career somewhat after leaving the NCAA and going to the WHL. There is a realistic chance that at least 10 players picked in that draft will play at least one game in the NHL. That's incredible. |

I wouldn't give Snow too much credit for this. The man most responsible for this lights out draft was fired. Funny I'm still waiting on an explanation for this brilliant move. Could it be money and/or he was willing to speak up when he saw problems in the organization. :ph43r: |

I recall Botta or someone else, awhile back, noting that the Isles thought Spurgeon was a possible NHLer but not someone whose promise warranted putting him under contract. I gotta agree there. We're pretty deep in smallish puck-moving defensemen. BTW while Snow is no draft genius, the GM gets credit for all drafts on his watch after 2006. After all, it's his guys making the judgments and running the show after the first two rounds. |

Well I do agree there, we have an overabundance of smallish defensemen. However, wouldn't it be better served to sign him and keep him in Bridgeport and use him as future trade bait? To me, it would be better to hang onto all assets in your control. |

Each team has a limit on how many contract players they can have between NHL, AHL including entry-level. That number is 50. This guy flat out sucks. He's small and even Hillen has more value and upside which doesn't say much. Snowy, I wish we could hold onto all assets too. Deep inside we hope that all draftees can someday reach their potential but most never do and the hardest thing any org can do is prioritize to keep to that 50 contract limit. In this case, I do not blame Snow. You hear that Jackace, Ozzie and anyone else? I am praising Snow. Small praise but praise none-the-less.
