First post so bear with me. Loved the game last night, that this team finally showed the rest of the league we don't care if you don't want to come here, the guys on this roster love each other and want to play on long island. To me this was a statement game on so many levels, first the score 9-3, now we'll hear no Crosby, no Malkin, BOO-WHOO injuries are what we have been dealing with all year so their won't be any tears on this fan board. Three guys reach 20 goals in the same game(thank you Snow for picking up Grabner, every time he has the puck i'm looking to see if he can blow by the d-man.) A-mac you are awesome the most under-rated d-man in the league. The thing that i loved the most was that the darlings of the NHL finally got what they deserved. The pens are a dirty team, and nothing get's done. Crosby gets a head shot, and the league is up in arms. Tavares and Comeau get the same thing and no penalties or suspensions follow. I'm not however condoning what Martin and Gillies did they both should be suspended, but if that's what it takes to get respect so be it. If the league is going to treat us like doormats, then expect the team to push back. The catch phrase we always hear is changing the culture of the team. Well folks if that didn't change the culture I don't no what will. Winning is not only about 2 points, it's giving your heart to the guys that sit next to you on that bench. And that's what we saw last night. To a man they said enough is enough, it's us against the world. Now let's not kid ourselves, the team is far from being rebuilt, but this was the start we needed to turn the corner. Snow-Wang you saw last night that this team has a good nucleus, now go and get some help for these boys. And please a Canadian or American born player, I'm not xenophobic but we need that x-factor that usually a Northamerican can bring. One more thing the media is going to rip us, but who cares this team for one night made us relevant . We were proud to be Islanders fans, and it's been a long time coming. Keep the faith folks, and let's start the KEEP HALEY ON THE ISLAND PETITION. |

If the Pens have such a problem with Haley fighting Johnson, maybe they should tell Johnson not to skate out to the blue line and challenge people. Also, speaking of guys that shouldn't be fighting, I wonder if the Pens have a problem with Rupp going after Hamonic. I'm sure they were just fine with it. |

Let the media rip us, we've been their whipping post for years. Welcome Montreal. I agree with almost all of you, except I do condon what was done by Martin and Gillies. Sometimes it's worth the investment of being suspended to get your message out, and it was loud and clear. I can't remember how long it's been since I've had that sense of pride to be an Islander fan. I was very proud of this team last night. Not only for the fisticuffs, but also for pouring on the goals and never letting up right up to Grabs shortie (which was a beauty). Even when they scored 2 meaningless goals we came back with 2. Haley was brought here for a reason and he didn't disappoint. He is a way better option on the 4th line than Colliton. The guy was great, with his fists and the puck. He came here and understood, he gets it. He was the only one who jumped Pheunuf after the KO hit and took a suspension two years ago if any one remembers. Martin gets it, as we saw last night, and it's really too bad that Gillies doesn't have any hockey talent because he certainly understands the team pride part. This was the best game I've seen in decades and I'll watch it again today. 9 goals, 346 PIMs, and a complete beatdown of the primadona Penguins. Just a banner day in Islanders Country.

They view us as the villians on NHL Network...wonder what the league is going to do. My guess Gillies will get 4, Martin gets 2 and fine the islanders some amount. Godard will get his 10 but the league will choose not to suspend Bylsma. |

Welcome to the board. Great opening post and I couldn't agree more. What I find comical is the nhl on the fly clowns tried to "put it in perspective" by showing the Talbot hit on Comeau and mentioning he's out with a concussion but then say, "it wasn't that bad". Then they clobber Gillies for coming across the ice for a headshot???? How can you have two interpretations of the same play. Talbot came across the ice to hit a defenseless player and so did Gillies, but our guy is the goon and Talbot isn't? And all this, "Martin reminded me of Bertuzzi". Funny, I don't recall Talbot's head being driven into the ice or being jumped from behind. Talbot had JUST slashed our goalie in a 6-0 game Martin was NEXT to him, grabbed hiim and pulled the first two punches. They didn't land, then Martin essentially tackled Talbot to the ice. Yet Pascual Dupussy is in a fight with Josh Bailey grabbing bailey's shield and once the two roll on the ice, Dupussy is still throwing punches while on top of Bailey, which neither Martin, nor Konopka nor Haley did when beating the crap out of Talbot. Yes, Gillies and Martin will be suspended and deservedly so. But based upon past precedent, neither should get more than 2-3 games. It will be interesting to see what bullspit Colinblow comes up with using his Magic 8ball and Ouija board on this one. |

Those two are a disgrace, first comparing what martin did the same thing that Bertuzzi did. Two totally different incidents. Martin held up after Talbot went to the ice. Second, what Haley did was in response to Johnson tapping his stick on the ice trying to get our rookie goalie to fight. And how many times do our guys get driven into the goalie and our player gets the penalty. The refs were a joke last night. Last night was a message to the NHL -- stop taking liberties on our players or there will be equal or more retaliation. |

It is an automatci suspension for the Pitt coach. He's gone for a few. doubt Gillies gets 4 games. It is his first suspension to my knowledge. How can he get 4 when a repeat offender in Cooke got 4? If so, Gillies should appeal and Wang, Snow and the entire organization should start calling publicly for Colinblow's head. But in the end, Colinblow will only do what the Magic8ball and Ouija board tell him to do. |

What about the idiot at the end of the game who went after MacDonald...or the chump Kennedy who was trying to have a fight with everyone once Haley and Gillies were out of the game. Bunch of pussies. But don't you know, its fine when Brent Johnson WINS the fight. But if it doesn't go the way the Pens want it to, then it is just wrong.

Letang was upset the Haley went after Johnson. Johnson was out at the blueline so did he just want a better seat to watch the action at the end of the ice? Johnson intentionally came out looking to get involved and Haley gave it to him. No Islander bias here, Johnson got what he deserved and should have got more if Godard didnt hop the bench. Goalies know to never leave thier crease during an altercation. When did the league get rid of the rule that it was an automatic game misconduct if the goalie left the crease during an altercation? |

I'm guessing the same time they got rid of the "instigator" rule for the last 5 min of a game. Used to be, you get an instigator in the final 5 you get an auto suspension...Well, I'd say Johnson skating the lenght of the ice to fight another goalie is an instigator, but somehow he was never suspended for that with 13 seconds left. |

I think your crazy if you don't think Gillies will get at least 7 games if not more....and the league doesn't have to explain themselves. The league is going to try and use this game as a way to try and keep what happen last night and Bos/Mtl the other night from happening. Since the Isles instigated much of it last night thats why they will be heavy handed towards the Isles. Dont obviously agree with that cause the camera doesn't catch all the other stuff that goes on that you can see at the game. If you just see the highlights of the game and don't know the history between players/team it looks like the Isles gooned it up. Oh well great game to be at and outside the Gillies hit, the Pens got what they deserved/asked for in that game. 10 Gillies 6 Martin 5-7 Haley 10 Godard not sure you'll more Pen's....maybe if the league wants to send a message. |

I don't think the Penguns "deserved" it anything anymore than we NEEDED to stand up and get stuff out. There are impartial people with no allegiance t either team that will look at that hit on Comeau and say it was more clean than dirty because Comeau should have had his head up. (the old, that's hockey argument). The fact that this team had it's oft injured goalie show more heart at the end of a game during a lapse of judgment coupled with sheer stupidity really resonated with them and it's no coincidence they've played better since. I understand how Pens fans feel this morning. There was no reason for alot of that to happen in their eyes. But they have NO concept of WHY it had to happen in ours. They have not followed our team and what hasn't happened when guys like Tavares have been rocked by big hits, elbows and cross checks with Parenteau and Moulson doing nothing. The fact that every NHL media outlet showed Marc Andre Fleury's big tombstone teeth reflecting the arena lights after the DP knockout was probably something the team was sick and tired of hearing about. Thank you frenchie. Thank you for being so happy then. We are happy now.
