WOW!!!!! Fantastic game. Nice to see the guys standing up for themselves.

I don't think there will be that many suspensions on the Isles side. Gillies shouldn't get anything. Haley will get 2 for the double game misconduct.

This game will do more for future attendance than any winning streak.

Webby/Steve - I agree with both of you, gooning that was needed and a team that needed to stand up for itself. We've seen them take too many shots and never respond, so glad they finally did. I also hope its a turning point about team unity and sticking together but the proof will be in a 3-2 game and someone takes a shot at any of our top guys with A) the players on the ice respond and/or B) will our enforces go and take of business on the next shift.

Last night was great but I need to see them back this up with not letting liberties be taken in the future.

Did I mention how awesome it was to be there for last nights game...high fiving Dad and people around us...whoooo!!! :isles:

Great night for the Islanders as a team and as an organization. This franchise has been disrespected by the league, other teams, and individual players so to see this group finally come together as a unified force last night was beautiful.

The Pens have been running around for a couple of years getting preferential treatment from the league. They lead the league in fighting majors for good reason. Teams around the league are loving what the Isles did last night - run up the score and beat them down. The league has its hands full now and it'll be interesting to see how they deal with this especially since it involves one of their darling teams. It also sends the message that if the league won't protect the players, as Konopka said, they'll protect themselves.

Proud, indeed.

Let the media rip us, we've been their whipping post for years. Welcome Montreal.

I agree with almost all of you, except I do condon what was done by Martin and Gillies. Sometimes it's worth the investment of being suspended to get your message out, and it was loud and clear. I can't remember how long it's been since I've had that sense of pride to be an Islander fan. I was very proud of this team last night. Not only for the fisticuffs, but also for pouring on the goals and never letting up right up to Grabs shortie (which was a beauty). Even when they scored 2 meaningless goals we came back with 2.

Haley was brought here for a reason and he didn't disappoint. He is a way better option on the 4th line than Colliton. The guy was great, with his fists and the puck. He came here and understood, he gets it. He was the only one who jumped Pheunuf after the KO hit and took a suspension two years ago if any one remembers. Martin gets it, as we saw last night, and it's really too bad that Gillies doesn't have any hockey talent because he certainly understands the team pride part.

This was the best game I've seen in decades and I'll watch it again today. 9 goals, 346 PIMs, and a complete beatdown of the primadona Penguins. Just a banner day in Islanders Country.

Listening to thier broadcast was unreal. As if the Penguins never played dirty, headhunted..ect. Anyone remember the "low blow" by Crosby or when off a face off Crosby attacked Stephen Weiss. I think these announcers forgot about that. I guess when youre the nhl golden boys youre untouchable.

Yes indeed,

this was a great night for the organization and like mentioned above, only real Islanders can understand it's significance.

Having said that, unless they are willing carry this attitude forward ( obviously, in a tamer fashion), tonight will be remembered as nothing more than a one night standoff.

Either way, this is a huge step ahead for this team and it's suffering fans

unbelievable! Glad to see this team not only show the pens but the NHL about team pride and that they deserve respect. 9 goals?! Even if one punch wasn't thrown this game was still a complete beat down.

The islanders team is surrounded by question marks and instability, hopefully last night was a sign pointing in the right direction. I hope this game carries over not just to the next game but next year.

Very curious to see the Isles next game now and how they act... no hangover!

Could hardly sleep last night. Haven't had that much fun at the Coliseum in years. As Webby said, what was done NEEDED to be done. And it may need to be done again as well. If guys continue taking liberties with our players, they need to pay the price until the NHL steps in and does something about protecting us. Colin Blow has failed to do so, so you know what? Time to bloody a few opponents and get some "great" PR on NHL Network and TSN.

I think Gillies will get at least 4 or 5 games minimum. The ref was really pissed at him for not stopping when the guy went down and wasn't defending himself. The refs were trying to hold Gillies off but he kept throwing punches at the guy who was hurt and turtling on the ice. That is the only thing that bothered me from an Islanders state of view. The rest of it was classic. If management don't do what it takes to add to this group in the off season they are gonna be very sorry. This group took a huge step last night as far as character goes and have proven that they deserve some upgrades, especially on D. Then we could be talking about playoffs next season.

I agree....that was uncalled for. Gillies will get a few games. I do not understand what Haley to warrant a suspension. However GODARD....well he should get MORE than 10 games. Not only did he leave the bench...he was 3rd man into a scrum, and he took 3 cheap shots to the back of Haley's while he was pummeling Johnson.

Here is a link to ALL THE GOOD STUFF from last night....ENJOY!!!!!

I think we can get rid of Al Arbour Night in the 10 game box set and replace it with this game. They beat them on the score sheet then on the penalty sheet too. Let the mainstream media complain about the game, what transpired out there was something that more people will claim they were there at than actual tickets sold. I'm just surprised that the Pens outshot the Isles since I didn't know they had players left that could shoot at the end of the game.
Hopefully this game will be to the Isles what "The Double" is to Seattle.

Im always proud to be an Islander fan, but nevermore than last night. It reminded me of the Islander teams of old...not only beating you on the scoreboard but pounding you senseless on the ice. I agree that it had to be done and to do it to one of the NHL darling teams was great. I couldn't care less about the suspensions we get....this team has come together and thats priceless. No matter what happens for the rest of the year...NOBODY is gonna laugh and call us doormats again.

Hearings set...

Quote:

Martin, Gillies and Konopka to have in-person hearings tonight
12 m ago By Katie Strang

Newsday has confirmed that Matt Martin, Trevor Gillies and Zenon Konopka are all scheduled to have in-person meetings with the NHL tonight in Buffalo regarding their involvement in last night's game.

According to a source, those meetings are scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Islanders team hotel in Buffalo, NY. The Islanders play the Sabres tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Islanders GM Garth Snow will sit in on all three hearings and coach Jack Capuano is expected to be involved as well.

Matt Martin's hearing will be concerning his ambush of Max Talbot, Gillies' his elbow/taunt on Tangradi. Although reports have claimed Konopka's hearing involves a line change he made to enter the game and fight, I have not yet confirmed that as an exact reason.

You gotta love these guys attitude....

Martin and Gillies respond to respective altercations with Talbot, Tangradi
32 m ago By Katie Strang

Since Matt Martin and Trevor Gillies seem to be the two players destined for suspensions, let's start with them.

Here's what Martin had to say about the game last night:
"There was a little history between the two teams. We want to make sure that we took care of what we needed to take care of. It was an emotional game and that's how it played out," he said. "This team is kind of sick of being pushed around all the time. I think we made a statement out there tonight, that we're not a laughing stock. We can take care of ourselves."

And of jumping Max Talbot, who concussed Martin's teammate Blake Comeau last week with a blind-side hit.

"It was what it was, I took care of what I had to take care of," he said.
Gillies also responded to his hit on Eric Tangradi, which reportedly left him with a head injury.

"I thought my shoulder hit him. Maybe I followed through after, but it's not for me to decide. It's up to the league," Gillies said.

When asked about taunting Tangradi after the play, he said:
"Now that you look at the tape it doesn't look so good, but it's an emotional game and I'm one of those guys that wears their heart on sleeve. Maybe I let emotions get best of me there," he said. "There were a lot of guys going to war for each other on both sides and that's kind of the way it went."

Proud of the boys for standing up for themselves and of the crowd there for creating a great atmosphere. It's was that rare modern-day Coliseum experience of a team and fan base coming together.

I drove up for the TOR series when Cairns floored Corson. I expect the vibe there was similar.

All that being said, I did mention while watching Gillies that I thought he had already made his point and he would have been better served by going straight back to the locker room. That's just me.

Is everyone else in the league up in arms because the Penguins were served or because it was our Islanders that did the serving? If the media did not make it a point of showing MAF laughing his ass off would our reaction have been as harsh? Can I make a PayPal donation for Haley's commute from Bridgeport to Uniondale?

It should be an interesting Coach's Corner tonight. Grapes will pretty much set the mood for the long-term impression of last night's game.
