this arena bs is so annoying do the islanders realize that the arena has nothing to do with why players dont wanna come here. lets use the penguins as a perfect example scary all the simalarties we have with them: 1. the penguins played in a run down arena and talks bout the team being relocated start (were goin through this now) 2. they draft crosby penguins still suck (tavares drafted isles still suck) 3.fleury drafted 1st n has trouble (dp and we all knw his story) 4.they were constantly rebuilding (as are we) 5. and with all the bad i mentioned above they still got big name players year anfter year (apparently we cant) doesnt make sense to me!!! and heres the kicker.... 5.in 2007 they have a playoff team and finish 2nd in the division and guess what THEY GET A NEW ARENA IN PITTSBURGH!!! so what im sayin is players dont care about arenas, you see if i was a hockey player id rather play on mario's team not garth's...if people dont like you as a player which im assuming not alot of people never loved garth, then there not gonna wanna have you as there boss! secondly if you want support from from the town of hempstead to build what you want than give them a reason too, give them a winning team as the penguins did in pitt. its like the old saying goes if you cant help yourself why should anyone help you! |

The Islanders are getting a new arena either in Queens or a move to Brooklyn-it would be sad to see them leave Nassau but for the sake of the franchise it's the best thing. end of story |

As long as Wang is a meddling owner, increased revenue stream from team/arena or not, it's still END OF STORY. Spending doesn't = success. When he first took over he spent money but couldn't help but meddle and hire his friends/family and only those he had a gut feeling about. This isn't a matter of casting it off with a simple "so what, it's his money"... Look around at all the success stories in the NHL and you'll find more NHL capable people in key positions with freedom to do their jobs. I never believed it's a guarantee that map for success will lead to it but when you run things the way Wang has, your chances for success are greatly reduced. |

Brooklyn is out of the question. The building is not being built to be able to accommodate hockey. It will either be Queens or out of state or most likely out of country and I wouldn't count on Queens now with all of the crap going on with the Mets, the other joke of a franchise I root for. Thank God I am a NY Giants football fan! With the Canadian dollar just as strong as ours now and cities like Quebec and Winnipeg dying for teams it's only a matter of time before a couple of these non successful US teams end up north of the border. I will never believe that anything will be built in Nassau. I don't think the TOH give a crap or would care if we up and moved tomorrow. The building only gets half filled now and in this economy, even with a winning team and a new building I don't see them being able to fill any new place on Long Island. Don't forget, a new building will also bring with it largely increased ticket prices, increased parking prices, concession and everything else prices at a time when most people have less expendable income. |

i heard that too about Barclays Arena but the Barclays Arena site says the facility can be used for ice hockey. the Wilpons are selling 25% of the Mets that should get them $200mil more or less, does anyone think CWang would sell @ $200mil? Charles Wang has been quit ever since the lighthouse project got squashed |

If this team wins, they will sell tickets. It happened before, it will happen again. The only question is: When it does happen, will it be too late? |

well said just look at the rangers every year there on a spending frenzy and they cant win a cup...what wins a cup in this new nhl is building a core team...we make sense on paper the building through the draft is a great idea and we have a good young core but there is no veteran core and that is a big hole in snow's plan the kids are never gonna learn the ropes...if we add some solid veterans and by veterans i mean talented veterans not any has beens(weight) or never will be's(john sim) |

If the winning arrives before 2015, we'll get a new building. If the Isles still suck, then it's "oh well too bad", but if they are winners it will be "we cant let them leave". No one ever said the building has to be completed by 2015, just started. One, two year interim leases can bridge the gap. I'm not holding out hope, yet I'm not shipping them off yet either. I just hope it's the county that takes the lead and builds the building, without owing Wang the world. |

lolll the islander dumpster dive is legendary we've gotten some real winners from there...sim,hilbert...need i say more lol as far as the rangers go id rather have a team not make the playoffs every year unless you know there gonna win, rags fans know there teams makin the playoffs which kinda get boring after awhile n to make it worse they know there gonna lose first or second round...for us it kinda fun we know were not makin the playoffs so on those odd years we slip in its a blastt hahhaha

If the County builds it instead of Wang and Wang doesn't get all the revenue, parking, concessions and so on then he will still run the team on the cheap and we won't go anywhere. I would rather see them leave and thrive somewhere than stay here and lose because if they lose this crop of young players we have now either through stupid trades like in the past or through free agency because they are sick of being here I am done with the team forever. I can't commit myself to an organization anymore that is on it's 10th rebuilding process that never gets completely rebuilt. They have been stringing us along for far too long with this BS and it never ends. |

Do YOU sign the lease with a promise to build a building if we stay and not demand revenues from the building? MINIMUM: ALL parking and concession and box seat revenues as well as advertising when the Isles play MINUS a set portion going to Nassau taxpayers to finance the building. MAXIMUM: The current arrangement. Either way, the improvements will mean more money/more seats and NO SMG SUCKLING. If the County wants to give SMG a deal breaker or shaft the team of revenue, they lose a major revenue provider. And either way, they make more money than in Queens as a tenant. They make FAR MORE money than in Canada with their tax rates. They make far more than in KC with their 4-10k fans - and with no tornados We have leverage in the coming years, in other words. But then again, Wang is in charge......so who knows. |
