When I look at teams like Edmonton and Toronto, whose fans boast about all the young talent they have, and even the Rangers too, I just see our talent and see a lot more high end potential there. And the silver lining to a shitty season will be adding another young, talented player to that group this June. Adding players like Nino, de Haan, and our future #1 to that core is going to be very exciting. But I'm with you, I'm tired of the rebuild now. It's served its purpose and with JT going into his third NHL season it's time to take the next step. |

I said the same thing in another post, 5 wins in that stretch would've made a huge difference. But we lost, and thats that. With the 360 man games lost to injury, which leads the league by 30 games, playing without KO and Streit and our 5th and 6th string goalies, we are where we should be. But, and I caution all that I am the eternal optimist, we string 6 in a row together and get close, watch out. We are playing that well. I can only wonder if that idiot Nabakov would've played and gotten hot he could've written his own check next year. Oh well, they are fun to watch. |

Actually, I don't agree....we're not going to have a full roster of stars. I don't have a problem with the bottom half of our roster as long as the one guy goes..... |

I don't think about what could've been if we didn't have that awful streak because I subscribe to Steve's theory of the pressure is off. Look below at the streaks that this team has gone on. 4-1-2 - We're awesome exceeding others expectations, pressure on 1-17-3 - Injuires and not having capable backup's team can't get out of own way. pressure off 8-1-1 - Lets play "our" way carefree nothing to lose, teams take notice and whisper of playoffs(I'll find the post if really need me too), pressure starts again 2-8-1 - Oh lookie here we go on a prolonged drought again, pressure off 7-3 - Everyone pushing us around we're not going to take it anymore and they start winning. The streaks above and partially injury driven but they are also signs of an immature team and a team lacking proper replacements in key positions. This team could finish 18-4-2 and I still wouldn't think we have a chance with the team as is, does it need major changes absoultley not. I thought this team would compete for the 8th spot all season even after KO and Streit went down because I felt between Rollie and the D would keep us in a lot of games and if DP could turn in .500 record in his games we'd be solid. I was worried about scoring more then anything, obviously I should have been more worried about the D and goaltending. The point is Garth/Wang NEED to spend money via trade to get a few(2-3) to help out the young talent we have. You can't keep counting on projects over-Acheson and pray it all works out. |

C'mon....you're always gonna have 2 or 3 guys like that on every team. The point is that we now only have a few of them but before we had a half roster of dead weight. Things are getting better guys....like it or not ! |

That could also spell the glaring need for a veteran presence. I will say the first streak was guys skating hard before groin pull time, then the system bogging them down (teams address the weakness on D) and a coach gone clueless like he had two prior seasons. We then had a transition where you'll recall we had to learn to PLAY HOCKEY again, and we grew a game again while losing but doing more each game in all three zones. We then saw our defense be born. And then our offense couldn't catch up with bad goaltending. Finally, we score and our defense is reliable. Would that counter the pressure theory? I would say pressure to adapt is what caused our malaise. One coach is light years better in helping those players adapt. One coach has them playing three zone hockey, and the results are crystal clear.

Lets not for get, Cappy is use to playing with what he's got. The guy was an AHL coach and these guys are constantly shuffling guys in and out of the line-up due tot eh big clubs needs. He smartly reverted to a system of play that allows you to just as easily put Gervis in the lineup at Wishirt(sp?) and then its lets up to the player to make a hockey play. My point was also meant to illustrate that a veteran presence would be VERY helpful. Just 2 or 3...They could replace, PA/Haley/Comeau/Gervis/Wishirt type spots on the team. I like how the rest of the team plays together and of course a solid goalie with DP to be the backup. Its not major things but they are little tweaks that would make this team more consistent and then hopefully playoff contenders. |

I think we're ALREADY playoff contenders since Gotrun was fired, honestly (says the negative poster) and are finally in shape to finish this rebuild since we're back to playing hockey rather than a stymieing system that sucked. But given that, we agree on vets. Imagine PA being knocked down to the third line if we brought in a Langenbrunner at minimum to play the first line. Imagine a vet D presence instead of Wiz being replaced by an AHL'er. This season is lost due to an undisclosed coaching idiocy losing 17 games. This team is poised to be FAR better next year so long as Snow remembers to keep what works and jettison what doesn't (that means having NHL goalie depth, keeping Martinek and looking to improve line 1). |
