sounds more sad than he is excited to move on.

said something interesting...tat he's worked hard to prove he's NOT a perimeter player
and that his work 5 on 5 and play away from the puck was better.

He did not show that. I hope he hasn't read any of my overly critical posts on him.

Hope for better things for him down in Atlanta.

I think most of the guys on the current roster really like their teammates and want to succeed here.

That being said, while Schremp play was better then when he first got here its no where near a 2nd line center/winger. He doesn't drive to net....thats why Grabner gets all those chances...even when he does have the puck on a 3 on 2 break he drives down the center drawing the 2 dmen with him...Robbie...goes wide and tries to stickhandle around them....turnover 90% of the time drive killed.

Like the guy but he doesn't fit on this team...Grabner too his project spot away.

Yeah I heard the Hemsky rumours. Also hearing Konopka is a goner. Hope the first part is true, not the second.

Yeah, that is good news and comes from out of nowhere. Maybe Konopka will stay with us, which is fine with me.

I don't get why they are trying to trade him. He kills penalties, takes and wins faceoffs, fights and is a solid team guy. What is the problem?

I don't think its that easy to find a productive 4th liner as our history has shown these last few years.

We can only hope that Snow is not a good GM in this case, is asking too much for Konopka, and gets no takers for him.

But if he's not a good GM and asks for Mark Andre Papineau in return or a 3rd rounder to trade at the draft for naught.....

How about Snow's not sober and can't work the phones? I hope for that.

so thats it.. all we did is put lawson and schremp on waivers and schremp went to atlanta? Damn... That sucks! So much potential up for grabs and Snow was too busy reading the sunday comics. It might be different than what everyone else wanted but, im disappointed.
After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots"

If they resign Konopka I'm fine with him staying. Martinek should have been dealt for anything.

why? We were never slated to be active in the trade market today. We shipped off our 2 best trade pieces months ago (Wiz & Rollie). Unless you were thinking we were gonna move some of our "core" guys...what attractive trade pieces do we have? An injured Martinek?

remember, if the deal went down before 3 we may not hear about it for a while. As long as the league gets it the deal still goes through. I would say we're safe at around 3:30. No rumblings from the blogs I checked. No Hemsky. No martinek. no Konopka.

All quiet.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh, let's not wake Garth up. :P

Nobody should really be disappointed. We didn't have a Brad Richards getting ready to walk. Again, if we resign Konopka I'd be happy with him staying. Maybe the team was shopping him to see if they could get more than he's worth. For a fourth liner, I could understand that. The same could be said of Martinek, but I just want to move on from him so I'm a bit upset he wasn't dealt.

Well, we keep a veteran defenseman who is often injured (did well this year) who can play with young defensemen and HELP and we reduce the number of games Bruno gets to play. Shame we couldn't trade him.

(note sarcasm)

Would we be better AFTER the trade than before? This is a question one asks if they intend to win.

Konopka better be signed. Wang wants the game to be played differently, he should sign every goon out there this summer and bring Gorton back as coach. There won't be fighting anymore.....just 82 games of epileptic convulsions and broken sticks for the price of competitive hockey.

(and I ask the same about Konopka.....we're better WITH him than with a draft pick)

We had nothing to trade. If we fired Gordon earlier, we would have.....but that would entail the team trying to win. 2012 is right around the corner so I believe next year they will.

Keeping Martinek or getting rid of Martinek has nothing to do with Bruno Gervais' Islanders career. If Bruno plays the last 20 games who cares really. What I care about is him being gone next season. I never want him in another Islanders training camp again. I want the entire defense as a whole to be upgraded. Getting Streit back will be a big help. But in this division and this conference these smallish defensemen with no offensive ability like Martinek, Hillen, etc isn't going to work here. We need bigger bodies back there, and we need more skill back there.

It is believed that 2nd-round pick was asking price for both Martinek and Konopka. Snow wasn't willing to part for less.

If Garth wasn't going to deal Konopka for anything less than a second-round pick, may as well announce contract extension tomorrow. #Isles
