Webby,

Let me start by saying I LOVE THIS WEBSITE. Normally, I would have sent this to you as a PM, but I figured it might be something for others to weigh in on or to just tell me to stfu if I'm way in the wrong here.

I always liked the crawl of players at the top of the site and how they appear and disappear with players from our past. As a guy who saw the first team play in 72, I love seeing guys like Parise and Harris from those early years who are probably lost by later generations.

However, there are three names that appear that have me wondering should they... Satan, Bates, Campoli. These three have contributed NOTHING to this organization in their stay. Yes, Campoli had a penalty shot goal...and did nothing else his entire career except pull a groin. Campoli asked to be traded and got his wish. Satan scored some pretty meaningless goals. Maybe we should put Marius C up there as well?

Personally, I think a guy like Adrian Aucoin would be much better up there. The guy repped us in a few ASG and was a beast for us for a few season. He's easily a bigger and more important part of Isles history than those 3.

Like I said, if I'm out of line, tell me to stfu. Won't take offense especially since I am a techno-idiot and have no idea about making a website or the time/difficulty involved in such a change. Just thought I'd throw it out there...Plus, I hate Campoli and :argh:

EDIT: Just caught Aucoin in the scroll...so I will start by telling myself to stfu :knowitall: :jerkit:
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

I don't care who's already in it however I do miss Stefan Persson. After all he is the second best scoring D-man of all time for the Isles.

To have names like Potvin, Trottier and Bossy followed by Bates and Campoli... Really though, they are a tough act to follow. Who on this team would warrant being put up there?

No one.

IMO, only guys with their names etched on the CUP.

:dontknow:

I like it the way it is though. Each names brings an distinct memory, the good for some, perhaps a bad one for others. But it evokes a response and subliminally, seeing these names flashing
across the top reminds us of our history. Good and bad.

I'm waiting for someone to make me a new one. This last rolling banner was made by RockitHC. I had made the first one. So if anyone wants to make up an new one post it here and we can choose. I've been meaning to take it down, since there is no JT, KO or any of this teams names up there.

So come on guys, give NYIC a new name Banner.

I had an idea of maybe putting up the names of teams with a year and have them scroll from year to year. We've roughly have had 6 teams(7 if you count the crap of the late 90s like Macinnis and green's team).

Like...

75: Parise Lewis Harris Westfall ......

82: Potvin Bossy Trottier .....

87: Lafontaine Flatley ...

93: Turgeon Ferraro....

02: Yashin Peca Scatchard Webb

Today: JT KO .....
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

That is a good way to look at it. It's not necessarily the career, as Potvin, Trottier, Bossy are the best of the best and very few people should be mentioned in the same breath as them.

Maybe a three tiered system of HOF players, leaders of the era and then players that don't fall into the first 2 tiers but had some big, impactful moments in Islanders history. Like the memory of the Bates penalty shot memory, which was an amazing moment in dare I say modern Islanders history.

That last sentence makes me want to :puke:

But see, that's the thing right there.
For some of us old timers who've seen ever year since 72...
we have the benefit of seeing the great years and worst years.

We have alot of good younger poster here who's best recent memories are the bates penalty shot
in a series we didn't even win.

Since the team dropped the ball on this, maybe we should make our own Islanders Country Isles Hall of Fame. Put those players on the banner. Doesn't have to necessarily have to be a player who won a Cup here, but somebody who made a significant contribution to Long Island or to Islanders History. Would make for some fun debate.

By the Bates logic...then Volek should be on the thread too. They both had big moments...only 1...in team history.

I'm old enough where I can remember 93 pretty vividly. Went to a lot of games that year and went to Game 4 of the Washington series. Remember it all. But I'm young enough where I think 91 was the earliest season that I can recall following at all. At the start of the 90-91 season I had just turned 7 years old. Everything before that I have to rely on old videos and YouTube. Over the years I have made myself pretty educated on team history though, between my father and old game tapes. But it's not the same as seeing it in person. Would be nice to celebrate a playoff series win one of these seasons.

Laugh all you want, but he was a fan favorite.
I was suggesting teams from certain years to represent those teams, and Steve Webb was a fan favorite during his time. The banner was never of those 'worthy' but a representation of the players that have passed thru that are noteworthy.

Sorry to say I don't have the techno-savvy to drum up one of those banners, so I'll join a few of you folks in offering $0.02 on who might be added or deleted.

Overall, I love the banner and would only delete one name, Campoli. I suspect there's little argument on that.

As far as adding to the banner, I think only a few names are conspicuously absent...

Resch
Persson
Goring
Sutter (that's a 2 for one special...no, Ron doesn't count)

I would also vote in a few more recent names who spent most of their careers as Islanders and made real meaningful contributions to the club.

Volek
Lapointe
Martinek

I'd leave the young names off the banner; they have many years ahead on the ice.
Just my $0.02 on improving a great feature of the site.

I'm not laughing at Steve Webb. I was making a joke of "why Steve Webb" as if I didn't connect your handle and him. Thats all. I know he's a fav of yours.

Personally he was a guy who frustrated me because he seemed to disappear alot on the road and be a presence at home. But I know he's a fav of yours and from what I understand a pretty good guy to boot.
