DiBenedetto; Thoughts?

DiBenedetto has several games under his belt now. Any thoughts about what you see or like? He must be chirping a lot out there because other teams hit him as if they were diabetic and he was hoarding all of the insulin.

He played with the Sarnia Sting alongside Stamkos for a season and scored 93 points. The next season without Stamkos, his over-age year, he scored another 93 points. He's a big question mark in my book, and I'd like to see if he holds any offensive potential. Possible Jon Sim style pest?

He seems like a real gritty, hardworking player. Surprised that this is the same guy that had such tremendous numbers in juniors because we haven't seen that yet. Not sure what his long-term future is with the Islanders but I've liked what I've seen so far.

We drafted pretty well that year
(Josh Bailey, Matt Martin, and Justin DiBenedetto)

I was really excited to see what he can do, but he's done so little in the AHL that there are very many question marks about his ability in the faster version of the game.

Good to see the 3 of them play some NHL though.

I haven't seen too many strengths. Certainly not his skating. His forechecking seems ok, but overall I'm not too impressed, but it's only been a few games. Next year he could come into camp a year older and be a totally different player.

Jeff Tambellini 2.0.

Struggles to make decisions which cost him time. Always a step behind.
He has skill and always stick checks, jabs and annoys the opposition with his stickwork, just absolutely no reason for him to be in the NHL other than lack our of depth.
He belongs in the AHL. Points accumulations in the AHL or JR's mean nothing when you're
always a step behind in the NHL. Colliton stunk (3 times), DB stinks too and it won't help him earn a higher roster spot
playing on an NHL 4th line because in a SLOWER game like the AHL where you have that split second extra to make a play, he can be a top 6 forward with more icetime where he belongs.

Next.

Not overly impressed, not overly disappointed. He looks like he is still finding his way, but with his impressive numbers in juniors I expected more offense. He is a hitter, but I have also seen a few times where he turned away.

I would grade him as "incomplete" at this time, he appears to need more seasoning.

I think that is the reasoning for bringing him up. Give him a taste of what he needs to expect and train for. He could come back a different player. Hopefully Ullstrom will get his taste this year too.

Agreed. I've really not been underhelmed or overwhelmed by anything he's done. I think this is a great chance for a kid to "see what it takes" to be able to compete every night in the nhl and then we see what he brings back with him come Sept for camp.

well he must be something special if gillies would get himself suspended 10 again..geez, usually one would hold that one opportunity to defend a teammate for the likes of johnny t..atleast you know he's going places..otherwise, gillies looks like a complete idiot defending a slow skater, another tambellini wannabe.. :dontknow:

I don't think he'll be anything more than a 4th liner. But I'm hoping he can be a pest who chips in a few goals here and there. I think that may be possible, that's why I like what I've seen. But I do not think he'll ever be a top 9 forward.

I don't think DiBenedetto has had enough games to really know what you have. If he's here next year would be a real interesting 4th line with Z, Haley & DiBen-

now we may know why Konopka doesn't have a deal yet. you replace Z with Haley, Sim with DiBen and then Martin on LW.

I didn't like his skating and tentativeness...but this is why he should stay on two-way deals for the next 3-4 years and either develop and progress in the AHL and take advantage of future callups (hell knows he'll keep gettin' them at this injury pace) over the next few seasons.

Putting Martin on 4th line would be a bad move unless we add talent to third to move him there. We should have lines of...

PA-JT-Moulson
KO-Bailey-Grabs
Comeau-Frans-Martin
SBen-Konopka-Haley

That is how the Isles should role the rest of this season. As for next season, moving Martin back to 4th and losing Konopka...not in the best interest of the team imho

Agreed. Which means no Hunter, no Weight, but also no free agent acquisitions - unless its on D.

I have been really impressed with Martin on the Bailey line these past few games.
