I am not thrilled about this for some reason. Would have been fine if he walked or better yet traded. The New York Islanders announced today that right wing PA Parenteau has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension. Parenteau, 27, is currently tied for second place on the Islanders in points with 35 (14 goals, 21 assists) through 56 games this season. Prior to signing with the Islanders as a free agent on July 2, 2010, the Hull, QC native had only played in 27 career National Hockey League games. “I’m really excited to stay on Long Island,” said Parenteau. “The Islanders organization has given me the chance to prove that I belong in the NHL and I look forward to being a part of the success that is building in our dressing room for the near future.” Originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the ninth round, 264th overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Parenteau completed a four-year junior hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2003. He played his first professional season in 2003-04 with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League (AHL). Prior to joining the Islanders, the eight-year veteran had played in five NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks and in 22 with the New York Rangers. Parenteau’s AHL resume includes stints with Cincinnati, the Portland Pirates, the Norfolk Admirals and the Hartford Wolf Pack. Parenteau scored 166 goals and 237 assists for 403 points in 450 career AHL games. |

Are they kidding us? Cap floor maintenance. Here we go again. This was not a priority in my opinion. |

I know this is going to get a lot of negative feedback from people here, but I don't think its so bad. He'd be a better fit on the second PP unit. |

Not a priority, just a convenience. I don't mind this if he was in a better position, like 3rd line winger. |

I dont mind this signing. If we can get a few free agents in here next year, or maybe even a trade on deadline day, he can fit in well on a 3rd line. No problem here......

Agreed it wasnt a priority. The only thing that worries me is if they feel they don't have to sign another forward now in the offseason. |

Next year we'll have the exact same team, maybe 1 or 2 castoffs looking for employment and the optimism will soon slowly fade as the season starts and everyone realizes the deficiencies I'll be pointing out between now and then. Just like the last 2 friggen years. Just wait folkies. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

And why should they? Nino should be able to contribute next season. I would've been upset had this read Schremp, who should be gone. Moulson JT Comeau KO Bailey Grabner Nino Nielsen PAP Haley ZK Martin would most likely be up on the blackboard in Snow's office right now for next season. **Dont forget that Hunter is still under contract. |

I think all of us think that deep down. We'll see what happens. I'm not getting my hopes up at all, but I'm still gonna wait and see. |

That's not a playoff roster no matter how much I try to look at it realistically They'd all have to perform to best expectations and you know there'll be some injuries. We don't have the depth and experience. Unless Bailey, Okposo take that next step, god knows. Then there's that goalie issue. I love how you left off Gillies!

Safe signing, although you can bet he's penciled into the top line again. I see: Molson, JT, PA KO, Bailey, Grabs Nino, Niels, Comeau Snap, Crackle, Pop As I've stated elsewhere, PA out and a quality play making FA wing in his spot (I know, dreamland but whatever); Schremp, Gilles and PA as fill ins would be, to me, the best lineup we can hope for. |

Much rather have Haley, who can play the game, than Gillies, who can sit for 57 minutes a night. |

35 points and the bastid is a -11. He's a powerplay specialist. Tavares' plus minus sucks too but he's 9 years younger. |

35 points isn't bad, but with first line minutes it is hard to think he could do well in a reduced role like, say, on the third line. I see those lineups and see too many question marks. The team dropped these type guys in recent years - Hilbert, Jackman, Park, Thompson, Bergenheim ,Sim to name a few and replaced them with lesser performing question marks (except for Grabner now). The team's stance from here on out should be to upgrade the team, position by position if necessary. |

Nick, I think you hit it right on. If he's our third line forward, I think it's fine. The areas we really have to improve upon is in goal and defense. I always believed if these two areas are taken care of, every night you have a chance to win. |

Konopka brings way more than Thompson. Grabs brings way more than Hilbert. Haley brings about the same as Jackman. And 1st line winger/3rd line center PAP/Nielsen brings more than Park. And Bergenheim is not missed, I'd take the hitting and pride of Martin anyday. You may not see upgrade over those journeymen but I do. Not to mention we are way younger and as a unit now. |

Subtract Comeau and add one top notch bonified FA forward and a couple solid defensive defensemen and I think you have a solid playoff team. Dump all useless space takers like Gillies and Shremp. |

Agreed that Comeau shouldn't be a lock. Neither should Parenteau or Bailey for that matter. No reason why this team can't play with extra forwards. Every other team does it. It will create some competition and light a fire under some players asses. The only forwards who should dress every night without question are Tavares, Moulson, Grabner, Okposo, Nielsen, and Konopka (too important on faceoffs and as an enforcer). The rest should have to fight for playing time. |
