I stated this once before. Once you get a hard on for a player, it's only human nature that you only see the bad and not the good. Such is life.

I live in DC and watch all the Caps games. It DIDN'T happen to anyone and it doesn't happen where OV beats the same guy THREE TIMES on one play. Sorry...not THREE TIMES on one play without getting touched. Frans is holding back Grabner and Okposo offensively on that line. Plain and simple. He's too high in the offensive zone when we have the puck down low and in his own end he's tissue-paper soft. His positioning doesn't mean S if he can't hold his man off the play. Webby- it isn't JUST the OV play. Anyone else recall the play v. CBJ when we had either just tied or taken the lead and within a minute, Frans who has PERFECT position in front of our own net and the puck in front of him allows himself to be outmuscled by Umburger who scored FROM BEHIND FRANS because Frans let him reach around him and shoot the puck!!! Frans loses physical battles like that ALL THE TIME, they just tend to happen along the boards where most people aren't noticing. And to make matters worse, he is a TURNOVER MACHINE when entering the offensive zone and turning it over near the blueline. OTH- I'd love to see that item you are quoting because I never hear opposing players say, "Its going to be a tough one tonight to score because I know I'll be hounded by Frans Nielsen all night". Whomever is voting him second most underrated player in the league has no future as a talent evaluator after their playing days, imho. Simple question- when this team gets good and makes a run at the playoffs, who is going to be the second line center- Frans OR Bailey? IF you think it is Frans, then we ain't going to the playoffs anytime soon. He's playing above his ability and even his potential ability. He needs to be moved down the lineup. Plain and simple. |

okay simple solution here for everyone....nielsen can center a line with paranteau..and bailey can center a line with okie or tavares...there problem solved.... but don't come crying to me, when nielsens-paranteaus line leads the team in scoring when it happens...I'll simply say..haha..yep

Not a fan of the reach around. We'll just have to disagree on Frans because I think he's playing well. |

I have an answer to your question: NEITHER. As I've been saying for weeks now, Bailey should be the 3rd line center and Frans should be the 4th line center. They need to either bring in an outside veteran OR they need to draft a center if they are in position to bring in one that can play in the NHL next season (Nugent-Hopkins or Courturier). I agree about Grabner and Okposo needing an upgrade offensively at center. Frans can dish the puck, and I like him as a player, but he's not an offensive threat. A true offensive center would place more attention on himself and less on his wingers, and Frans does not do that. As I said in the Konopka thread, I think the Islanders haven't resigned Konopka yet because they want to upgrade at center. And obviously, Bailey and Frans aren't going anywhere. Bailey can get a regular shift on the third line and will be depended on to score less, which should allow him less pressure to continue his development. I absolutely disgree though about Frans as a player. He is a solid player. I don't think he's nearly as bad as you think he is, but I also don't put him on a pedistal. When this team becomes good again, he will be what Claude Lapointe was to the 2001-02 team, only he will be younger. Lapointe had a big role on the Islanders when he first came, and when the team got good again his role was reduced. He was still an effective player and a more than solid PKer. He centered a very memorable energy 4th line of Blake-Lappy-Webb. That line was a key to that team. I think you will see similar things from Fransy in the future, until he becomes too expensive. Then you may see a Casey Cizikas take over that role if he's ready for it. |

That's a good question. Considering THIS AFTERNOON I heard on my way home from work soundbites of Caps coach calling Downey and Stamkos divers and several caps players saying the same thing...and they played later that day... I'd say considering the press has time with the coaches and players around the time of the mid day skate you can hear alot if you listen. |

and when I hear it on radio in the players voices, or when in the pregame they show clips of players talking after the noon skate, I'll believe they said it. (wouldn't be surprised if players did )The beat reporters always get time with the opposing coaches and players at the mid day skate (except Howie who chooses to skip those) |

VIVA LAS VEGAS
|
After the game against florida... He's slowly becoming one of my favorite Islanders. Plays well, in on a lot of plays, I always hear his name being called by Howie, forechecks, back checks and he puts the biscuit in the basket. Id like an extention.... |
| After a narrow victory in 1994, Boston Bruins defenseman Al Iafrate was asked why, in the closing moments of the game, he had fired the puck around the boards rather than into the empty net. His reply? "Empty-net goals are for faggots" | |

He takes to long to make decisions and those giveaways are very frustrating. He's doing a passable job offensively, though I'd love for them to upgrade his spot on the first line with a leader/scorer/veteran to guide Tavares and Moulson. I wonder how much he would score with Bailey and Comeau on the 3rd line... |

I think that's where he's destined to finish next season. I'm sure to start he'll be back with JT and Moulson unless we bring in a FA winger. |
