Wow, he seems like a bit more than a no talent checker. Good luck to him, he sounds like a great guy. And we can always use more of those.

Pretty good on the face-offs too. He is for sure going to be a crowd favorite at the Colisium.
Rick DiPietro- Retiring?Nothing like that has even crossed my mind. I know I can play..

Enter witty comment here...
I like this guy. I noticed him on the bench when Dallas scored a goal and he looked more pissed off and disappointed than anyone, including the coaching staff. When the Islanders scored, he was the one looking the most excited on the bench. He seems to really push the kids and has good leadership skills. Add that to his face off ability and fighting skills and this was on hell of a pick up by Snow.

He got credited with alot of checks in game 1. I thought Hunter had more.
I knew he was a decent skater from watching him in Tampa, but seeing how he hustles to get back in the play is something that is very telling about a players work ethic and this guy has it.

Was thinking the same thing.

Coach Gornads really is irritating me early.

Zenon Konopka livid with lack of calls for Tavares

12 m ago By Katie Strang

Sorry this took a backseat to last night's news about Kevin Poulin's left knee injury, but at least one player--tough guy Zenon Konopka--was incensed after the game about the officiating.

To be specific, Konopka was particularly livid with the lack of calls against players taking liberties with the Islanders second-year star John Tavares.

"If the league isn't going to do something about it, someone else will," Konopka ranted. "This is our franchise we're talking about--John Tavares--and he keeps getting run. It's enough. We've had it."

Konopka said he has noticed the disturbing lack of whistle respect for Tavares since the beginning of the season.

"We're talking since Game 1 with Dallad' Adam Burish [whose open-ice hit concussed Tavares]," Konopka said.

When asked if he shared Konopka's concern, coach Jack Capuano said:

"There are games, I'll be honest with you, that you watch it and think there should be a call"

He continued: "There were a couple of incidences in the neutral zone where [Tavares] was trying to make some plays and he felt he was being held and hooked a little bit. It is what it is."

A Mark Messier would have sat down with PA Parenteau, Matt Mouslon, Radek Martinek and Jack Hillen and said, "look, next time JT gets leveled like that and you do NOTHING about it. I will do something about it to you.

Those 3 were caught on an extended line change, Parenteau was gassed and went off the ice, Moulson skated back on defense as the Leafs rushed the other way while JT lay on ice.
This isn't the first time Tavares has been leveled but if your team doesn't send a message, the pacifists who say no biggie may just see the light bulb over their heads come on when the kid is out with a concussion or injury.

We are so soft it's ridiculous. Glad Konopka has the balls to speak up.
Toobad Katie Strang doesn't have the know how to address the issue. Thank god for VERSUS and NHL Network as those analysts pretty much echoed everything I was bitching about last night as it happened.

I love the guy. Hope we sign him for another year, that's if he even wants to be here next season.

Look at the coach's response "It is what it is". WTF is that???? Is he afraid to speak up because he's a rookie coach? How about HE shows some balls too !!!! How about he loses his cool on the bench and screams at these refs...because they don't seem to respect us either.

Jack needs to be accountable too!!! He's letting the refs f#@k us over and teams push our players around with NO response.

B-b-but Charles and GarfGarf know what they're doing. Why would Katie slight those who give cupcakes?

Toronto...no Gillies.

We're going to get penalized, Phaneuf IS going to play.....so why don't we dress all toughness and why not against a bottom dweller?

Wang probably had him scheduled to appear at a moving company function.

Or Capuano is a schmuck. Either way, JT has no "enforcer" and the coach, who had tougher guys in the lineup, did not employ toughness. His quote says it all.

he was screaming at some of the TO guys from the bench late in the 3rd and Z had to calm him down so he wouldn't get a penalty.

not his fault the coach wouldn't turn him loose :dontknow:

I never blamed Gillies. It's the cream puff coaches we hire that are scared to get penalties every game.
