For the Islanders’ upcoming announcement regarding ticket prices, Point Blank has been told that fans can expect the following, among other initiatives: •The recent 20% reduction of over-the counter prices, instituted after the Islanders’ early-season swoon took them essentially out of the playoff race by early December, is likely to remain in place for the 2011-12 season. •Season ticket pricing plans will be significantly discounted. Contrary to a theory posted here on Saturday night, it does not appear the franchise will ask buyers to put down money early this spring in order to get the best prices. Good. •After seeing their benefits reduced over the last few seasons, Islanders full season subscribers can expect a menu of highly creative and enticing goodies to choose from if they renew or sign up. •Additional fan-friendly ticket plans and promotions are also in the works. The Islanders will likely release details on ticket prices and promotions for 2011-12 on the team website and via press release by early Monday afternoon. After making $20 tickets available in prime locations for so many games this season, the Islanders are faced with some challenges to put fans in the seats while creating more revenue in 2011-12. Team executives also face stiff competition from secondary ticket markets like StubHub, which since October often offered movie-level prices for NHL games at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Despite the obvious improvement in the team’s play during the second half, there is also the challenge of overcoming the stigma of finishing in 26th, 30th, 26th and (around) 26th the last four seasons with nary a playoff push. When all is said and done, there is no better marketing campaign than having a winning team. Nevertheless, combined with the development of key young players and an upgrade of the roster over the last year, Monday’s announcement figures to be very good news in Islanders Country |

months ago I brought up how this team could go on a little run with no pressure. DP is back and we will struggle down the stretch in these last few games if he plays. I don't want to pay 50, 40, 30, 20 or even 10 bucks. My position has not changed. When the ahole owner sells or hires an NHL capable GM and/or spends on this team instead of maintaining a payroll that circumvents the cap floor...maybe I'll consider it. |

I know Im alone on here, but I dont know what else Garth could do with a shoestring budget he hasnt done. Honestly, he's done a decent job given the situation when he took over and the payroll given. |

Vinny, Mistake one, signing DP to 15 year deal. Not one playoff round victory yet he went along with what Wang wanted. Been laughed at ever since. |

He has built up the farm system with more depth than what this franchise has seen in over 15 years. How much better a respected GM would have done is obviously up for debate. But the kind of rebuild this clown Snow has said he would undertake is exactly what he did. And that cant be measured in Ws or Ls yet. I agree with Steve more about Snow now than in the past, but this year will be most telling to me more than ever. With the development of some young guys, now more than any time in the past, is when you have to add pieces and veteran leadership. Otherwise, it is a shoestring budget waiting out the lease. But if Wanger gives Garth the green light to add pieces the way he did when he signed peca, yashin, etc. than maybe Snow was just patient at the behest of the owner to build the farm system FIRST before any future salary increases. I think we will see this offseason for sure IMO. It will be interesting. |

Neil Smith and Pat LaFontaine wouldn't stand for the BS from Wang. I'm not even excited for free agency. I know the drill. BS, BS rumors, false expectations and alot of dreaming from fans making lineups and thinking we'll be healthy next year. We have crap running the engine. Crap strength and conditioning coach and our results reflect it. The injuries are no surprise to me. If anyone has heard Jaffe's interview with Botta and Pat Flatley on HNL this past weekend, you'd be in tune with what I've been saying all along. Glad they see the issues. 6 games to go. |

Funny you should mention Pat. I go to school with his son and was talking with him about the Isles. He was saying how his dad has come to resent the organization since Wang took over. Apparently he has little concern for players past and present. Its a shame that Wang is alienating players who gave this franchise a name. |

Bring back...PRIDE OF THE ISLAND

finally the pretenders will be done with hockey...and we can watch real nhl quality players in the playoffs...unfortunately, one of those quality nhl players with teams will be the rangers..well, perhaps it can be sweet when we watch them get swept in the first round... from season tickets, to partial tickets..to prove to me that you're for real..otherwise, I don't want to have anything to do with you.. islander hockey is officially done for the year...doesn't make any sense to watch remaining games..why? to see them get clobbered again..to watch nielsen lose another puck at the blue line on the pp? to watch rick look slow go side to side? to watch grabner go on his daily breakaway only to be stopped..(seriously, the boy needs to practice his breakaways in the offseason)... oh wait, yes, it is important to watch the remaining games..we get to watch bruno's last remaining days as an Islander..(yes boys and girls..this is how you don't play the game.) or perhaps we are looking forward to PA scoring his 20th goal...or JTs pursuit of 30..or (outside long shot) grabner going for 40...anything is possible.. there is like 6 games left???still time for another injury to happen..I hope its not brittle boy.... |

Well, the alumni who made the team great can go to the trial which can hopefully make this team great again (if the rumor of Wang's imminent trial is true *knock on wood*). How great to see Patty, Bryan, Mike, Denis, Clark, Bobby and others in the courtroom on the prosecution side? (again, just a rumor right now) |

Its put up or shut up time for Garth. Last offseason we had a ton of holes. This coming offseason we'll have less, but there are still holes. We've heard that they'd spend money "when the time was right". They could argue last season that wasn't the right time. They can't argue that this offseason. This team is on the brink of becoming a playoff team. It needs two or three players IN THEIR PRIME to produce both on the scoresheet and provide leadership. While the signing of Parenteau to an extension so early wasn't the greatest sign, the non-signing of Konopka thus far is an encouraging sign. And if we do nothing this offseason, at least Steve will be there at the end to say "I TOLD YA SO!!!"
