Cap won't be back next season. Kevin Connolly will be named coach.

| John Tavares was 2 years old the last time NYI won a playoff series | |

Jack C is the man, how can you criticize the job that he's done??? this team was a mess when he took over and now we have seen Grabner Tavarez McDonald the whole team play better. you got to be kidding when you say you don't want Jack Capuano back and if you're not kidding then you're either stupid or a Rangerk fan |

At first, I was like most others and felt that we needed an established coach. After seeing the team play under Caps, I'm ok with him staying. Bottom line, it's the players on the ice that win or lose games...not the coach. It appears the players are giving the opportunity to use their imagination and hockey skills under Caps. He is also leaving lines together and letting them grow. If this was Gordon, he would of broke up the Okposo, Grabner, Neilsen line 6 weeks ago and moved Grabner to the 4th line to utilize Konapka's strengths. |

When you hire a coach, you want to see them win. He's been given the opportunity, and even if you say the team is playing without pressure, they are still winning. He's done everything asked of him in that regard, so hiring him for next season seems like a good choice. Of course, there will be pressure to start next year, but all the young players will be a year older and already have the experience with the positive experience with Capuano from this year. I vote for Capuano to stay. |

Jack Capuano deserves a two year deal after the season to prove that this winning is no fluke.

everybody is so worried about islanders image to attract free agents, and rightfully so. I dont see how you cant bring him back without sending a bad message to free angents and to current players who seem to really like him. The guy has done a superb job since he began. He should certainly be back. |

To me, you have 2 options: 1) Hire Capuano as he has earned it. Grabner and Tavares have developed remarkably under him. However, if you do that you MUST bring in a veteran leader with tremendous RESPECT around the league. Enough of these wacko games like against the Devils and Rag$ last week where the ref does not even acknowledge our bench. That shows a disrespect towards our team that could be turned around by a Michael Peca type. 2) Hire a proven and veteran coach and give Capuano an asst coaching job. The veteran coach can combat the erratic referring and handle that from within. |

who says you need free agents to win? its the biggest myth in sports that you need high priced all stars on your team to win. the islanders are are about 12 points out of a playoff spot-that's six wins IF the team would have gone 6-15 during the 0-21 losing streak......that's says allot about the job Capuano has done and he did it without signing or importing talent as a matter of fact the Isles shed players and still performed better |

you so right! in order to win you need big players big money. look at the Knicks! Carmelo Anthony was the answer and the knicks are a way better team by trading for the guy or look at the Mets Beltran Castillo Perez Zambrano-you need to bring in the best to be the best! when you look at building a great team you need great players with huge contracts and owners need to spend spend spend in order to win win win!! |

I do....show me one team that's won a Cup with no FA's.....You don't always need the 7mil type free agent but sometimes you do need the 4-5mil free agent. NO team wins a championship with ONLY home grown talent. What if the Isles did win 6 or 7 during that 21 winless streak....maybe then Gordon doesn't get fired and they DONT have this nice run since Dec 15th. We could still be in the position 12 pts out with people saying its progress cause we were in the hunt for the 8th spot all year. You don't what would have happened if they won those 6 games...maybe Wiz doesn't get traded or Rolo, which means maybe Grabner doesn't get his chance to shine. You can What if to death....they went winless in 21 games...thats who this team was at that point...cant what if it away....and expect the rest of the season would have gone like it did after that. |

I'm sure when we are on the cusps of becoming a serious contender we'll have no problem finding that guy who want's to get his name on the cup. |

Cappy has earned a spot. Period. The guy gets it. And that can be verified by the fact that no one is killing him on this board. No names will be mentioned, but the natives have been quiet for a long time. Now watch what i've just done..... :ph43r: |

No you are right. The guy is doing a great job. He's allowed this team to be better by less coaching and more freedom to the players. He's allowing them to become the team they are and I think it's good for the players, the mood, and obviously the results can't be argued with. There hasn't been much about him that leaves me shaking my head, he plays the game logically, his lines and pk pairs are well balanced, takes his timeouts when it's right, has the right gut feelings about his players, and brought a confidence and stability to the players. So you wont hear anyone complain about the way he coaches. I think the argument will be is he the coach for this teams next step, or do we need someone who's done it before? Personally, I like very much what I've been watching and really don't want to derail a good thing. |

There are still people praising S.Grotum. I'd rather let the on ice superiority of Cappy's game speak than fan banter. But, as with everything Islander, if there is better out there, who wants it and who will stick with the status quo? (which is farrrrr better now that when the fannies insisted we retain S.Grotum) |

Lets wait for the 6 game losing streak and see how many supporters there are of his coaching. He's had a nice reduced-pressure run since taking over so everyone is content with the status quo. When a playoff run is underway and the team is playing tight because they cant handle the pressure and the coach starts losing his players, then we will see how good a coach he is. I'm enjoying the run now, but I will reserve judgement till next year and see how they do in a playoff race (God willing). |

While I agree lets see how he handles some real adversity it should speak volumes about his coaching that there haven't been any prolonged losings streaks since he's taken over. |

Right on the money. I think he's the "now" coach. Whether he's the coach 5 years from now when we're trying to "climb that final mountain", who knows. The patience with the line combos and sticking with them has really done wonders. To be honest, I can't even remember the last coach we had who did that. Even Lavy would juggle lines a bit. Nolan was always changing things up. Cappy has done a great job developing chemistry. There is one thing that does bother me, and I'd like everyone's input. Our powerplay is awful. After the culture that Cappy has developed here, I wouldn't want him gone just because of that one reason, but obviously the PP is important. What do you guys think in regards to that? What is to blame for our ineffective PP, the players, coaches, or both? |

Our PP has been weak all season...and If I recall it's one of the assistants who runs those units. Even with that said...the most obvious reason would be that we have no legit PP quarterbacks at the point. Streight and Wiz were supposed to be the guys back there...but we know how that went this year. Speaking of....Streit is officially out the rest of the year as he will not be cleared by his doctors....that doesn't sound too good
