Here's my first article about the game including some photos. I left a link because I don't think the photos and other videos will transfer. My video is being saved now. I'll have it up for you guys in a little while. Nordiques Nation Quebec invasion I thought they were awesome. They love hockey. They were fun. They double fisted beers all night. Great to see the enthusiasm. If the Isles move to Quebec I want to move there too. |

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=5910172 UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders have no plans to relocate to Quebec, or anywhere else, at this point. But if the team decides to pack up, fans of the former Nordiques would gladly welcome them, or any other club, north of the border. Bus loads carrying about 1,100 hockey enthusiasts -- who call themselves Nordiques Nation -- trekked to Long Island to see the Islanders host the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night. They want to prove to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman that Quebec deserves a new team. The decision for Nordiques Nation to attend the game was calculated. The Thrashers and Islanders are 28th and 29th in NHL attendance. Only the Phoenix Coyotes are worse, with an average of 10,189 per game. The Nordiques left to become the Colorado Avalanche before the 1995-96 season. The traveling group split up and sat in seats behind both nets, cheering loudly throughout Saturday night's game. They boosted the attendance to 10,056. "The positive sign with something like tonight is how many fans we have in the National Hockey League," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said before the game. "We welcome all fans of the NHL. We do have some great hockey fans on Long Island. It is a positive sign that there are NHL hockey fans across North America." The only available arena in Quebec that could house an NHL franchise is Le Colisee Pepsi, which was the Nordiques' home when the team played in the WHA and NHL. The NHL's reluctance to relocate teams hasn't stopped Quebec City and provincial leaders from forging ahead with plans to build a new arena. Quebec City Major Regis Labeaume announced in October 2009 that he had employed SNC Lavalin, an engineering company, to create a study on the viability of building a state-of-the-art arena in Quebec City. Quebec Premier Jean Charest and Labeaume met in September to discuss the study's findings. According to a National Post story in November, $310 million of provincial and private funds have been allocated to the endeavor. "Too many places in the NHL right now don't honor NHL hockey, said Vincent Cauchon, a sports-talk host at CHOI-FM in Quebec City. "It's been a passion in Quebec for so many years. We have the Montreal Canadiens. It's not enough. We need that rivalry back. "It's the most beautiful thing that the NHL lost, the rivalry between the Habs and Nordiques. It has to come back. It will be better than any rivalry in the NHL." Cauchon repeatedly said he isn't trying to steal the Islanders from Long Island. In the early 1980s, the Islanders were the class of the NHL, winning the Stanley Cup four straight years. "We have so much respect for the New York Islanders," he said. "The banners up in the roof, everything they did for hockey. I would be sad if I learned that the Islanders were transferred to Quebec, just because the people here love their Islanders. "They're on a good path. The New York market is great. It's not the case of every market. There are lots of failures in the NHL right now. It makes hockey look bad. In Quebec, it would look great." Just came back home! WE HAD A BLAST! I expected to have lots of fun but... what I experience with some of you guys was incredible. I mean it. The last 5 minutes when we all joined you at ice-level was sick. Can't describe the feelings I felt during these five minutes...! I met a lot of you Ny Isles fans before-during and after the game and everybody was friendly. Got a chance to share this with you guys and I'm thankfull for it. Ps: for the words in french Dr. ... I don't care about the mistakes of whatever... I looked like a fool tryin' to speak english saturday night. We were in your arena just to give a wink to the ligue and we certainly achieve that big time. Everybody talk and wrote about us and we even appeared in a big screen in times square. ..."despite boost from ex-Nordiques fans"! It made my day! We cheered for your Islanders and we had a great time doing so. To many banners, to much history to go anywhere. I knew it before and haven't changed my mind. Islanders fans just need what we needed 15 years ago... a new building. And maybe a new GM but I'ts tough to judge because of all the injuries. Give it time! And please dont give up. It worked before so it can work again. A team with such history should'nt go anywhere. I could name you 5 or 6 teams that could be move for the simple fact that It's not working/never did/never will. I' glad we shared and showed our passion for the sport. KEEP FIGTHING FOR YOUR TEAM... 15 years ago all of us in Quebec City got blinsided...we did not see it coming. YOU DO ! JP We'll be taking again soon! |

To be honest, I was really pissed off this was happening but I will give them credit for saying all the right things after the game. There is still a part of me the questions the motives of the Nords fans, since they know that we are in trouble as a franchise. Question is, will they be doing this at other arenas? If it's about showing the Quebec nation exists, will they be attending a Devils game in the future? |

I believe they picked long island cause they could get 1100 fans into the coliseum, unlike most places...so, my guess is probably not... |

Well, until I see them pop up at other games, I will question their motives. You came to an Islander game - great...now go somewhere else. |

yeah, I won't lie either...I do question their motives too, like I'm sure alot of fans do here...and like someone said, they did say all the right things after the game was over..so I guess you (myself) have to give them the benefit...but yeah, I would like to see them appear at another game than ours..ofcourse.. |

Oz, who could blame them. Two teams with terrible attendance, they need a team, any team. Wouldn't you be part of it if you were a Quebec native too, motive or not? My hat is off to them for the effort. |

Funny you brought it up.... the organizers are looking to repeat but it has to have an impact like it did saturday night. When or where they don't know. I suspect Boston even though we may not be able to get more than 400-500 tickets! Didn't thought about New jersey...could be an option but like one of guys said... nothing much to see or do pre and post game. By the way, it's was very easy for us to say the rigth things after the game because we all meant it! If we repeat this year I'll be there for sure (depending on the location of cours / not going to Anaheim or dallas ) But I'd be willing to wait 'til next year and go back to your place to cheer for the Isles once again... AGAINST THE HABS ! As you probably know, real Nordiques fans HATE Mtl Canadians and it would be awsome to cheer against them just for the fun of it, for old time's sake! Your team isn't going anywhere in 2015 but never take it for granted like we did in 1995. I'm kinda wishin' to get an expansion team, ya know, start from bottom and and try to build a stanley cup team! Cause even though I really want my Nords back... it kinda feels wrong gunning for the Atlanta Trashers. Anyways... |

PLEASE do come back for a habs Isle game..atleast than we might have some fans to compete with the habs fans....and your vocal too..us Isle fans are rather dull..chalk it up to either the depressive state of the franchise, or more old folks on the Island.. |

If I recall correctly, CANADA's French is 250 times better than mine, and he could probably spot ten errors in that single paragraph.
