I don't think either team would accept that offer, but from an Islander perspective I think it's a price worth paying. But again, I can't see the Devils or Hawks being satisfied with that deal.
Would be fine with all except Martinek. Andy Sutton had a fine last year with the Islanders too. He was a no show with the Ducks this season. Time to say goodbye to Martinek.
Parenteau's contract already says that for him, but I agree Haley should have a spot on the 4th line next season. Should be his job to lose, agreed.
I was on the fence about this, but after seeing him play in the Rangers series I think he would be a benefit to our team. We also need to sign a defenseman or two. |

Love the idea of signing Laich. Not sure where he would fit though... 2nd or 3rd Center?

keep the pick take the best player available use the 2 #2's to move up in the late round if you can find value etc etc through the rest of the rounds: move up in the 2nd etc etc try to trade Hunter on draft day for anything a #6 in 11 a #5 in 12, try to move Trent off the team no buy outs see if players are available for the right price don't overpay don't be desperate to acquire players and don't overpay in terms of years & money stay conservative keep building make sure that the players that are on the current roster are good enough to build around and do what the islanders have been doing: finding NHL players who haven't had a shot at the NHL and "sifting the sand" for more players-waivers etc. Joe Thornton would be a nice fit on the team as would Regehr or Bouwmeester but at the right price |

okay, i'll bite: On draft day, i would hang onto the 5th pick and select Ryan Murphy (D). If he's gone, 2nd choice would be Jon Huberdeau (c ). Trade Hunter for picks (doubtful we can get a player for him). Wouldn't mind trading Bailey and pairing a few picks (this year and next) on draft day to get another 1st round pick. Maybe for the 'hawks 18th pick? No takers on draft day, Buyout Hunter. Re-sign Konopka, Okposo, and Grabner. Wouldn't bother with re-signing Gillies, Gervais, or Martinek. See ya. For July (bit of a stretch) signings, offer contracts to B. Laich, C. LaRose, K. Bieska, B. Sopel. And if the rags let him go, sign Wolski Waive DiPi and send him down to the bridge until he can consistently contribute. If not, keep him down there. 4.5 mill ahl goalie is what he'll ever be. |

ronski, I pretty much agree with you across the board. Ryan Murphy, as of right now (and I reserve the right to change my mind after the combine), should be the pick. All of these playoff teams have more than one weapon from the blueline, and Murphy would be a premier offensive weapon. Let me repeat that: PREMIER. He has the wheels, hands, IQ, and shot to be the best offensive defenseman in the league. Only spot I disagree with you on is Bailey. Trading him in a package for a star player is one thing. Trading him for an 18th overall pick isn't a good move. Bailey is slowly progressing, but he's far from a bust. And chances are he'll wind up being better than that 18th overall pick or whatever the pick would be. Bieksa and Laich would be great. LaRose and Sopel... eh. Especially Sopel, been there and done that. Would like to throw Erik Cole and Curtis Glencross into that mix. |

I love this attitude where people think we are the Red Wings and people will take less to come here. Don't you guys realize that players take less to NOT come here? If you want a player, you don't only have to overpay, but you'll have to overpay significantly. |

Bring back...PRIDE OF THE ISLAND
|
if I'm the gm and coach.. keep the 5th pick and choose best available player for your team.. don't be trading any of your young "core" players...the islanders had their "chance" at zack, and some bone head of a gm chose a different player..forget the past, zack is a pipe dream..not happening. Besides, we're already commited to lifetime goalie, have another goalie that will be another ricky drama in poulin..last thing we need is to go after another liability casualty in zac..one wrong turn..and we have three players with snap crackle pop.. gillies two way, zenon two years, haley one year... I would stay away from brad richards..he won't sign with us...unless of course we believe garth should do his due diligence... sign higgens..next best thing over laich, because no way laich comes here..would have to overpay to get him..and we have seen in the past that even that doesn't do it..forget A and B free agents for awhile..continue to stay the course for the low grade cheap ones....in these tough economic times charles wang just can't afford to house star quality. |

UFAs I wouldn't mind seeing the Isles go after Defense Kaberle Scott Hannan James Wisniewski (yes, I said it) BRyan McCabe Eric Brewer Mark Stuart I don't see any of them as a top 2 d pairing, but everyone one would help our depth on D and several- Wiz, McCabe, Kaber- would be good to have on the point with Streit for the PP Forwards Michael Ryder Erik Cole Brad Richards Ben Eager Brooks Laich Jason Arnott Only RFAs I'd consider an offer sheet for Shea Weber Zac Parise As for trades, if the Isles are going to make a trade, jimmeny cricket, the BlueJackets could trade Nash for the right price. I'd look there before I go for Zac, plus Nash is under contract. Still we have options. But if we don't get Z under contract, i'll be ticked. That guy has heart and leadership and is the kind of example "future leaders" like Okposo and others can learn from...and he won't miss any games. |

McCabe, Brewer and Wisnieuski you want to see them go after? Not me. And you certainly can count out Wisnieuski because he already was here......and they didn't want to pay him so they sent him packing. Offer sheets are out of the question. #1......you never ever see any offer sheets anywhere anymore........and #2....would you be willing to give up 5 1st round picks for Zack Parise coming off a major injury. We don't even know if he'll be the same player anymore. I think he will be but you never know. |

Good point. Hamilton might be a safer pick because of the size. However, does anyone really trust a Snow and company to draft a gem? They have some part time scouts and Jankowski is no longer here. Snow pointed to quantity of scouts a few months ago following Jankowski dismissal. I question quality and cheapness. Example...when they fired that douche Gordon, they kept him as an "adviser". They actually kept him as a scout down in Atlanta. Why??? They couldn't fire him, might as well have him scout NHL teams for them. Whatever. The key is amateur scouting and we have amateurs paying the bills along with amateurs making decisions. And I as an amateur am judging them. We're not all Islanders. We're all amateurs. Amateurs don't win Stanley Cups. |

It never stopped Brian Leetch from winning Norris Trophies and a Conn Smythe trophy. Hasn't stopped Brian Rafalski from being an elite defenseman and winning Cups. All I'm saying is that size doesn't have to be an issue if his skating and positioning makes up for some of that. But the question that Snow needs to find the answer to is: Will Murphy be the next Leetch, or will he be the next Marc-Andre Bergeron? That's up for him to figure out, and he'd better get it right. |

In the first round...YES. The later rounds this may become an issue, but we dont know anything about the current state of the scouting department. Therefore, I will reserve judgement for draft day. |

Snow's "getting it right" percentage is not very good. He's the worst GM in the NHL bar none. But even the worst get lucky. I hope we luck out. Murphy may not even be their target for all we know. Had he been the top consensus pick, perhaps less questions about his size would pop up. btw, leetch was something like 6' 1. they list Murphy as 5'10, 5'11

Eh, Leetch's official listed height is 6'0 and weight 185. The IHDB lists Murphy at 5'11, 176. The size isn't what worries me. We've all seen defensemen play well in this league at that size. If they feel he can be a player who isn't a defensive liability and is going to be a 70-80 point a year player the upside there is far greater than any of the forwards that will be there, and maybe even better than some forwards who will already be off the board. If having to choose between Larsson and Murphy, Larsson is the safer bet to be an all-star player. I like Ryan Strome, and there will be other good players there, but this organization always needs to draft the most dynamic offensive player available because they have no other way of bringing in players like that as free agents. |
