Cairns

After watching the blackhawks storm back in the 3rd period today to tie the series it reminded me of these moments.. i am 34 yrs old so i was too young to enjoy the cup run...  i was at game 6 when cairns beat up corson and that was the loudest ive ever heard a building.. i was going nuts... watched  these videos just now and it brought a tear to my eye ... how much i miss this... how long its been... how infrequent...  i really hope that snowy turns this around next season... so we could have newer better quality youtube vids to enjoy like these 2...

and to add something we need to bring back this celebratory horn/goal song

You are indeed too young.......when I think of great Islander moments I think of Nystrom, Potvin..........more so than Cairns, Bates. But I would agree, those were great moments too.

I'm younger than MITB. My best memories are the 93 playoffs. Maybe if they had even made the playoffs in 91 or 92 I'd remember them as well :rotflmao: Unfortunately I have to remember 94 as well. Could Hextall even give us half a chance to win in that series? :puke:

I've said it numerous times, I never got to see an Islander raise the Cup live. At this point, I just want to see them win a playoff series again.

I've never even seen a playoff series win :crying2: :crying2: :crying2:

Much more credit to you my man. I can at least remember the very end of this organization being respected. All the credit in the world to you for sticking through this team through the dark ages. :punk:

Hopefully, better times are to come. Hopefully...

I've never gotten to see a Ranger team win the Cup. :crying2:

My best islander memories are 1. David Volek's ot goal in game 7 at pit.
2. Pat Lafontaine's ot goal in game 7 at wash.

Dying for some more

Volek's goal I will never forget. I about jumped thru the ceiling in my room. No hockey memory comes anywhere close to that feeling. Half my life ago. Hope to enjoy that special feeling in the NEAR future. Btw those 2 double OT wins against Washington in the prior series was amazing as well. Ferraro, Brian Mullen, Healy(don't like him as a broadcaster) , Kasper, Fitzgerald' 2 SHG on the same penalty, etc.; good stuff.

Although those moments are great, nothing and I mean nothing.....compares to this team parading the cup around 4 times. I am old enough and fortunate enough to have seen it.

For me if I had to pick one special moment.........its Bobby Ny at 7:11 of OT.

Too young for the glory days. Hopefully we all can enjoy that Cup winning feeling together. I will gladly settle for a playoff series win next year.

Old enough means you saw 7:11.

Older yet means you saw the heartache of the close calls the years before.

I'm old enough and wish I were older....until I try running up the stairs and stop because I think someone's making popcorn.

Yes, the heartaches: 1976 & 77 losing both years to the eventual champ Canadiens, who only lost 3 games in those post seasons - all to the Islanders. Watching Lanny MacDonald score for the Leafs in '78 was crushing. Losing to the Rags in '79...well...

But that fine Saturday afternoon in May 1980 made all the old heartaches fade away. I can't imagine being an Islanders fan without experiencing that Cup victory and the three that followed. Goring steamrolling the North Stars, Bossy torching the Canucks, and Billy Smith stoning Gretzky and the Oilers.
Hopefully, in the not too distant future, some fans will finally get that feeling and new fans will be born. It's great to actually have hope again.

No way 4 Cups will ever be won again by Isles or any other team
unless they re do $ situation in NHL

Good description of those 4 Cups Canadian Isles Fan

We all need hope

So here is the scenario

The Islanders win there 5th Cup next year
and pull off 11 more in a row to make a total of 15 Cups won
and were going to Disney land................................................................... :torrey:

Being pretty Young (7 When they won their first cup), i don't have too many memories of watching games, plus i lived in queens and did not get cable until almost 1988. all my memories of from the newspapers of the time, especially newsday color pictures of the isles with the cups. Another memory i have is calling sports phone every 10 minutes to get the results of the Easter epic (i got it good when the phone bill came that month).
i used to have a friend of mine with sports channel record the games for me and watch them the next day, then i would return the tape to him and he'd record the next game over it
i remember a lot of
Dale Henry fights

however from the following season on i got cable and watched all their games.
'93, which was magical. i have to say now that some of my fondest memories are of the leafs series in '01, in fact the whole season was magical because it brought us back to respectability.

Since the lockout i have not been too interested in Hockey, i have watched the team though and managed to make at least one game a year .
however this season spark my interest again and i really feel that things will start looking up.

I know it's too late but Channel Nine WOR had the games. (I had WHT until 1979 if you want a flashback)

I did see them a few times on channel 9, but it seemed to always be the rangers Vs. The Caps or the Whalers (I became a huge Kevin Dineen fan because he almost always scored in those games)

Yeah....I had Sports Channel and it was 10,000 times better than WOR, but I remember Kevin Dineen and the Stasneys and Tim Kerr and Mike Gartner all raping the Rag$, though it didn't have the impact that going to school the next day to rub it in had. (and then the Rag$ bought them all (well, a lot of the Ranger killers) and made them inbreds)
