sy, they are not having a press conference at the Coliseum to announce a casino plan at Belmont. They are having a press conference at the Coliseum to announce a new arena and sports complex on the Coliseum site AND a casino plan. If they had the announcement at Eisenhower Park, does it mean they'd have to build it at Eisenhower Park? |

Unless this is a signed and sealed deal announcement; one which everyone has agreed on and they put shovels in the ground; whoever tied the Isles to this press conference woefully underestimated our patience for these kinds of shows. |

I doubt very much that we'll ever see a Casino at Belmont, when only a few miles away one is opening at Aqueduct in the next 2 months. If there is a Casino, it will be on the same site as the coliseum, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Arena' is part of the hotel/casino complex like they have at Mohegan Sun for womens basketball and arena football. |

This is an easy out and a win win for everyone. Not because it will get done. Because after the vote, when it doesn't pass. Mangano and Wang can say, see voters/fans, I tried, I was on YOUR side. The more things change, the more they stay the same. |

No way a casino is ever gonna happen right next to a major college. Mark my words. If they try it will end up in litigation for years. It will go down just like the Lighthouse Project maybe even faster. Anyone wanna bet? |

Is the Aqueduct one going to have table games? That's the only reason I don't go to that one in Yonkers, slots bore me. |

The Penguins' new arena was part of a deal with a casino. I think the casino was built a couple of blocks from the new arena. I guess what I'm trying to say is that something similar was done in Pittsburgh, so there might be hope after all. "The Lemieux Group explored options to build a replacement for Pittsburgh Civic Arena, the oldest arena in the NHL, since its purchase of the Penguins in 1999.[5] In an attempt not to use public funding, the Penguins filed for a slots license under the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The Penguins were granted the license, though the decision of which casino company would receive approval was the Gaming Control Board's decision.[6] The Lemieux Group reached an agreement with Isle of Capri Casinos, which offered to fully fund a US$290 million arena, if Capri could also construct a $500 million casino nearby.[6] Other casinos, including Majestic Star Casino and Forest City Enterprises, also agreed to partially contribute to the arena's funding.[7] On December 20, 2006, the Gaming Control Board awarded the license to Majestic Star Casino, who agreed to pay $7.5 million for the first 30 years,[8] in addition to the Penguins paying $4 million per year.[9][10] The casino experienced financial difficulty, which could have led to taxpayers financing the entire project. However, on August 14, 2008 the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board selected Neil Bluhm to take ownership of the casinos, which pulled the casinos out of risk of bankruptcy.[11] The arena as of July 2009The arena's funding plan was agreed upon by Penguins owner Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl, and Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell on March 13, 2007, after much negotiation.[12] During negotiations, the Penguins explored moving the franchise to Kansas City or Las Vegas; after the deal was made the Penguins agreed to stay in Pittsburgh for at least thirty more years.[12] Lemieux later stated that relocating the franchise was never a possibility, but instead it was a negotiation tactic to help the team get funding for the arena from both state and local officials.[13] The arena was originally scheduled to open for the 2009–10 NHL season; however, this was pushed back to the 2010–11 NHL season.[14][15] The arena was expected to cost approximately $290 million, but rose to $321 million due to increased cost of steel and insurance.[16][17] The Penguins agreed to pay $3.8 million per year toward construction, with an additional $400,000 per year toward capital improvements.[12] After $31 million cost rise, the Penguins pledged an additional $15.5 million, while the State and Sports and Exhibition Authority split the difference.[16][17] In September 2009, the State contributed an additional $5.08 million from the "Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund" to cover a rising "interest on variable rate bonds".[18] The arena is expected to help the surrounding area grow financially; plans are in place to construct a bar and a grocery store nearby.[19][20] In October 2008, the Penguins reached an agreement with the Horizon Properties Group to build a 135-room hotel adjacent to the arena.[21][22] A "nationally-franchised hotel" is expected to open in August 2010.[21] A 15-foot montage of pictures inspired by the works of August Wilson will be created for Fifth and Centre Avenues." |

It'll be just like Yonkers in the types of games. VLT terminals compared to real casino class 3 slots/video poker. VLT..video lottery terminal, all connected to one central server that determines your outcome, every machine with the same chance. I hate Yonkers for that reason. And no table games, however, I see that Yonkers have roulette now, which is a game of independent outcome, the only other one other than quick draw the state offers.
It'll be much better having an Indian Casino than a state run casino. Although nothing beats vegas or AC where each casino's license is on the line if games are tampered with. At least in these states there is a gaming commision that inspects each and every machine and that machine is visibly tagged with the date of inspection, at least ensuring the gamer that the game is a fair as it should be. There is no such oversight for Indian Casinos. |

Botta just chimed in... http://www.islanderspointblank.com/2011/05...-nassau-voters/ Only thing you need to know??? REFERENDUM!!! Meaning a vote. Meaning no way Jose.
Of course as fans we WANT to believe better but Project HOPE suckers many in. Reading around the web...many Isles fans are letting their fantasy take hold of their better judgment. Tomorrow is more BS posturing. Cannot wait for the Mickey Mouse media to chime in on this and tell us complainers how wrong we are...again. Have a great evening everyone. |
