Sorry Snowy, I believe the point is more of the following...

people already paying high taxes and higher energy costs have no time to
figure out and deal with the districts who's superintendents are overpaid or corrupt
and separate that issue from the plight of our Islanders.
That is the last thing on their minds. That's your/our inner die hard fandom talking.

Put it to you this way...
Think even a marginal hockey fan is willing to shed a tear because a threat of the Islanders and a venue might leave?
They are not like us. They have been tapped out and sick of politicians and wealthy businessmen lying to them. Think half those residents don't want to vomit when they
think of the fleecing they've been through from Richard Kessel's BS?
Problem is, they are not thinking about Kessel, D'Amato, teachers unions or superintendents, Wang, Hillary Clinton or any one political party or specific businessman...they just read into having to foot the bill for something else and that alone is enough to
motivate someone to get in their car and cast a vote against the possibility of yet another hike.
That's why I think it will be voted down.

Hope I'm wrong and it gets through. I live in Suffolk and would be hard pressed to blindly vote yes for this if it was in my back yard since more clear DETAILS haven't been released.

And how about our Isles website?
Call 1-800-882-ISLES (ext 1) buy ticket packages...available now.
Ticket agents were already using this presser to try and push packages yesterday.

Maybe we should make popcorn and watch more of the dog and pony show from now until August.
I have great memories of this franchise with a less devious/cheap owner, but an owner who hired good people and allowed them to do their jobs.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is going to pass. However, there are a few things that make me think it has a chance:

1. The date. August 1st was clearly done on purpose. Not only is it taking place during the summer, but by being done on a Monday it gives it even more of a chance that people will be on vacation. I cannot believe there will be "no" votes that will plan that carefully to be around for the vote, but there will be "yes" voters who do.

2. Quiet mobilization. The attempt to get Kate Murray out of office failed miserably. And quite honestly, it was unrealistic. However, electing a politician is a bit different than a referendum vote. It has nothing to do with party alliance, which gets tricky. There is a much better chance of the "vote yes" push getting around by word of mouth. I've already spoken to at least 5 people today who have said they will go out of their way to vote yes. They will also get people to vote yes. I know this will not work across the board, but it will work in pockets. I doubt the "no" vote will happen the same way.

3. Getting too comfortable. I honestly feel that by the time August 1st comes around, this is going to be an after thought. I really believe people will be convinced that there is no chance of this passing, and that they won't be motivated to get out there and vote no. Summers are busy, people pay less attention to the news and more attention to their own plans, more importantly maybe Fatcessa will be on vacation the entire summer. There will be a good amount of people coming out to vote against this, but not the amount that there would have been had this happened on election day.

Those three things lead me to believe there is a chance we can squeak this one out. Obviously the key is getting the "people on the fence" who really have no vested interest in anything (don't own homes mainly) to vote yes for this. A lot of drawing public attention to this will only do damage, not good.

You now work WIOTH Kate Murray to get her to work for you. Wang, a leftist, has the GOP on his side in this and in politics, the more bases you cover, the better. Mangano, Wang/Suozzi and the goat vote all count the same.

This may be a delicate subject, but I think Islander and Ranger fans will support this measure.  Even though you hate the Rangers, would you want to see their team dissolve or move?  No Islanders = No rivalry.  All hockey fans in Nassau should vote on this, not only Ranger's fans.

Ranger fan living in Nassau and paying high taxes.

Let's see, risk of higher taxes at some point or rivalry for the love of hockey?

:letssee:

I don't know.

Thank god I'm NOT a Nassau county resident. I'm sure the young kids who live with mom and dad are fully behind this and don't think about the retired folkies already paying very high school taxes, the highest electric rates in the country etc etc.

Most of the youth blindly jumping up and down for this have no concept of taxes and most will move off long island even if mom and dad leave them their house.

Borrow and gamble with the future...who needs a casino.

In theory, this could mean lower taxes.

In Nassau, nothing means lower taxes.

I think you all understand this. The bond repayment cancels this out as a one time charge with county coffers making income on this. The arena repayment if not shadily constructed should ensure the taxpayer will see no negligible effect long term or medium term on the tax bill.

The bond issuance has to be repaid as well because NASSAU HAS A THIRD WORLD CREDIT RATING NOW. The politicians (in theory) have to make this work.

Now will they cut spending and reduce taxes in the future?

I only cared to hear 2 people.
Brad Kurtzberg and BD Gallof who I skipped to.
I was disappointed with Kurtzberg's thoughts. Nothing new outside of mainstream reports.

BD Gallof brought up TERRIFIC points. Furthermore he is more relaxed and looked
like fan instead of a robot in front of a camera.

I urge everyone to watch that and just skip to the last 5th of it with BD Gallof.
That is all you need to see, hear and ponder.

it's a different kind of bond deal- a bond syndicate backed by specific revenue. if your logic is right/correct your saying by 2015 the economy won't improve?

get a grip it's a great deal for Nassau County and it's citizens aka PROGRESS.

and as a matter of fact despite what you say about Nassau credit rating it's actually improving and the fact that people are starving for yield i will that this syndicate if passed, this bond float get's gobbled up faster than a big mac in mike franseca's hand!

Where did I write that?

Have you seen the bond market within the past 4 months? Bond fund values are dropping by the day. I was getting good yield but the value was dropping quick so I got out.

I'll wait to see how the bonds are structured before condemning/praising them. One thing's for sure, Easy E Mangano should have run this by NIFA.

maybe you're buying the wrong bond funds

by the way who elected nifa? when tom souzzi was destroying nassau county not a peep from nifa now all of a sudden....

Ed Mangano was elected by the people to run nassau county who is nifa boss? nifa imo should stay out of the way...

BD Gallof tweeting that there will be a MAJOR announcement regarding Coliseum on Wednesday. No casino. :dontknow:  :dontknow:

As the first to report this week's events on Monday, I really respect Gallof's reporting. Well, his latest take is not positive as it relates to Mangano and his promises.....

CJ Papa made a very interesting point. in 2016 there won't be a Nassau Coliseum, he asks were are you going to go (if you live in Nassau) and want to see an event? MSG?? the city and pay to get on the train etc etc??

watch out for WFAN to be come out all of a sudden ring their hands and make statements about municipal debt can Nassau County afford this?? and who really wants to go to Uniondale for anything??

remember the "FAN" was opposed to the West Side Stadium for the Jets because the Dolans did not want competition for MSG, most likely Fat Mike will start bring his property tax bill and read it on the air just to show that Nassau really should not approve the arena.

then when we have to hit the phones and slam Fat Mike for being what he is, a lackey for his bosses and a phoney.

Just like there's LACKEYS for Wang and Snow.

Don't believe the hype, nor scare tactics.

Educate yourselves Islanders fans. The unions-politicos-Wang camp are not going to give you any facts. Just their fiction.

Exactly!

You should not have to work to be an Islanders fan. You should only buy tickets, tune in or turn up for a game.
When the owner uses mickey mouse media to pull a chicken little , that's when it crosses the line for me.

There's plenty of places to go see a concert in Nassau. There's also some great museums, beaches and guess what??? LIBRARIES.

This "consider the alternative" to the NO vote on referendum scare tactic is really being marketed to peoples fears. So much so, I've read so many inane comments online by Isles fans about how this will resurrect Long Island. They need to stop listening to politicians, unions, lobbyists and people with agenda's who herd sheep.

This is why I capitalized "LIBRARIES" earlier.

The Coliseum gets big names to play there. I feel that going to Manhattan is such a serious pain in the ass. I usually take the train, so that is about 3 hours added to the trip. Plus the cost of the train tickets. Going to the coliseum round trip is about an hour for me, and the parking situation is doable.

I've been to concerts at the coliseum. I wonder if most Long Islanders agree with me that going there is much better then going to Manhattan.

I asked CJ for some insights about the press conference and he did a good job with it. Everyone that I filmed has there own take on things, some optimistic and others more pessimistic. CJ brought up a minor talking point but it is valid nonetheless.

Raised a good valid question.

But the answer is, it's NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

They are just stretching it.
In other words...not an Isles fan? ok, since hockey isn't your cup of tea...
where else would you go to see a concert, etc.

Marketing to peoples fears 101.
