how can you chose Laich over Weber. Weber is possibly the best dman in the league. No one choosing Parise is obviously because no one thinks Jersey would allow him to leave. He is good friends with KO though.

1. weber already stated not leaving nashville...and if he did leave..it would take a heck of a lot not just the thought of a "suppose" arena..and grabner signing..one 34goal year is not wayne gretzky..

2.no way the devs let parise walk.

3.really don't know were this love affair for laich comes into play?

4.make a trade for ballard..the missing ingredient.

Why? So he could slash our goalie in the face and throw the puck in our net?

Laich is a good player. He'd fit in well on this team. We're at a point now where its not a necessity to land a first line player. It would be an absolute luxury to land a first liner. This team needs a guy like Laich who can do a little bit of everything and dig out pucks along the walls and in the corners.

if he is the right guy for this team, then the islanders are going to have to pay serious money for him..

I would find a way to land a player like Kevin Bieksa. He and Streit coming back should bolster the "D" corps to playoff worthy status.

Been saying we should sign Bieksa since December. He would be perfect, aside from the injury history. That would be the first player I'd target.

a faster Trent Hunter?

Go for the first liner. Why aim for eighth when you can aim for first?
"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS

"But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann

Add Parise and two physical defensemen and you have an automatic playoff team and I am talking a four or five seed not an eighth seed. You would also see a dramatic rise in attendance. Enough young prospects already. Time to bring in a game changing leader IMO.

Even Zach Parise isn't worth 4 1st round picks and at 7+ million a year it's what you'd give up for him. The only way you offer an RFA a contract is if that team is so close to the cap AND you are not going to spend more than $5,231,246 per year on the offer (one 1st, one 2nd and one 3rd). After that you have to give up more than 1 1st round pick. That player would really have to be special and you have to be prepared to be disliked by a very large group of GMs.

I updated the header on original post and now I'll remind people of the comments I made a few months ago.

This team would go on a little win streak since pressure was off. (CHECK)
This team would remove the "interim" label from Capuano because he was cheaper solution more so than effective one. (CHECK)
This team would drum up more buzz on arena deal to coincide with ticket sales push. (CHECK friggen CHECK)
Garth Snow would come and say we won't be making drastic changes nor be huge players in free agency because our core is coming along nicely. (CHECK)
see Snow interview on nyitiv on main website.
Despite what Snow said, we'd still have fans dreaming up top level talent coming here over other teams
where they'd have a more REALISTIC chance of puling a Charlie Sheen term (WINNING!) (CHECK)

Stay tuned for:
2nd tier ticket sales push following draft. ( )
Fans over analyzing August 1st vote and trying to talk themselves into it actually being a good idea that can come to fruition. ( )
Nervousness coming over Islanders Country when top and 2nd tier free agents sign elsewhere and we sign a scrap or 2. ( )
Garth Snow coming out in August saying how healthy and great DP looks, feels and how he's ready and anxious to start the year. ( )
Stevedepot posting the I-told-ya-so-ya-bastids thread in mid October with exact rundown. ( )

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not their own facts.
The above are opinions (mine) which became facts (see checks).
Look for more checks to come. I hope they bounce and we do get a pleasant surprise but
I always say...those who don't learn from history, are bound to repeat it.
This is why I will not waste time dreaming about legitimate free agents signing here let alone being courted.

;)

in all seriousness...

from our guys:

UFA's
Gillies, Konopka and Martinek...
they'd better bring back Konopka.

RFA's
Okposo, Bailey, Comeau, Joensuu, Haley, Gervais, Hillen and Reese...
Have to sign Okposo and Bailey.
Trade Comeau's rights and give qualifiers to Joensuu and Haley.

Buh-bye Gervais, Hillen and Reese.
