Not sure if this would be 'fair and balanced', but it will probably be pretty interesting. I wonder if Snowjob and Wanger will make public statements.

Sent us via Sid Cassese: Next Wednesday, Fox Business is rolling into town as part of its targeted coverage of government deficit and debts. There is slated to be a debate, pro and con, over the $400 million proposed taxpayer borrowing for a new Nassau Coliseum and minor league ballpark. Particulars from the network: As part of this special, on Wednesday, June 8, FOX Business Network will head to Nassau to examine the $400 million proposal to replace the old Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and build a new minor league baseball park in Uniondale. Proponents, led by unions, say the project will create jobs. Critics, though, point to a lack of proof that it would help at all. FBN will be on-site to explore the debate. It is to air between 9:20 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Only piece I've gotten to see so far is that snake Desmond Ryan. Overall I'm hearing that this report doesn't bode well for this project.

A couple of videos from today:
Fox Business - video #1
Fox Business - video #2
County Legislator Denenberg just got sandbagged by producers / talent -- they asked him how much it will cost each property owner (roughly $50/year for 30 years) and for justification, gave him ~5 seconds to answer then said "we're out of time" and gave a smarmy rebut while throwing back to studio.
Somebody better coach Mangano & the pro arena spokesfolks on how to handle media - get out the message you WANT instead of answering the exact question answered / hemming & hawing when they run out of time....
Luckily the woman in studio that he threw back to said "I love hockey, you're never gonna get me to vote against it, so I'm with *that* guy".

A couple of things - adding more as I find...
1) Maybe the on air talent / self proclaimed "hockey nut" on the Fox Business channel starts wearing a "Nassau Coliseum - VOTE YES" button....
2) I hope the genii who are proposing this have reached out to other municipalities who have gone through similar funding / planning exercises -- San Jose seems like a good parallel, except they probably have more corporate sponsorship - good info on the San Jose Arena Authority website San Jose Arena Authority - good info on how they are structured, run....
3) Good article re swinging "NO" voters -- in context of Sacramento Kings, makes good points about the success of the Sprint Center in Kansas City ... But there are cases when those making the anti-arena arguments do change their tunes when presented with reality: new arenas can work as economic-development tools and generate income both for investors and municipalities. Witness Sprint Center, the Kansas City masterpiece that's both turning a profit and keeping money in town without a pro-sports tenant. Kansas City Star editorialist Barbara Shelly was part of a group that almost smothered the newborn arena in its crib before more forward-thinking folks pushed through a plan that included car-rental taxes as part of the mix:... Shifting opposition to support for new arena
4) Copy of the presentation County Executive Mangano made in May - looking forward to next details, but a good outline of the main points needing to be driven home County Executive Mangano - powerpoint presentation from May 2011

If they post the video online, I'll link it. But I saw Kevin A. Hassett interviewed on this hot topic. For those who don't know who he is, here is some info: http://www.aei.org/scholar/26
Much more qualified to comment on this latest proposal that so many fellow fans are trying to convince each other and themselves is a MUST because Nassau County stands to lose so much more.
Anyway, according to him, this business plan is a bad one that will eventually raise the tax burden and lower property values for many in surrounding areas. He also believes Wang is actually looking to sell the Islanders and by this deal for a new coliseum, their short term value will rise so he can sell them for more than their current worth.
Believe what you want. A REAL owner invests their money and spends their money on a new building. Wang tried to convince everyone that the Lighthouse was ALL FINANCED BY WANG when the bastid never had a plan for financing it ironed out. That would have come later when he could find investors.
The best question Mr Hassett asked was, "why doesn't Wang just renovate the Coliseum". It's a historic building with great ambiance. These state of the art arenas won't magically bring out fans who aren't comming anyway because the team isn't doing well.
In other words...build a better team.
I've been refraining from reading the same recycled garbage from fans on several Isles sites because it's getting embarrassing. It's like a group therapy session. Everything from free agency, the usual cast of topics and of course the 400 million dollar question. Even on August 1st, we won't know our future. Unions involved. Politics involved and most of all Charles Wang is involved. If this thing went through, I'd celebrate that our team would stay. However, can they be economically sound? Owing money to the County to pay back that 400 million? Didn't we learn from the Stimulus failure? This isn't my rant, these are concerns from a guy named Hassett who's more much more qualified than any fan on a message board with thousands of posts.
Something to think about.

If Wang sells the team, there will be local buyers interested. Mike Repole, the guy who created Vitamin Water, apparently was quoted on WFAN as saying he'd be interested to buy any of his favorite teams, either the Mets, Jets, or Islanders. He said it in passing, but he has a ton of money and is supposedly a true diehard Isles fan. So, maybe he's a future ownership possibility.

I think this team would be very hard-pressed to find a serious buyer who would keep them in Nassau County.......especially after seeing the many years of Wang being stymied by both parties in local government on getting an arena.
Even if someone had millions to pluck down, not having a guarantee of a new arena is a big deterrent.

I agree. The layers of bureaucracy a potential owner would need to get anything done to the Coliseum would deter most. I'm all for Wanger to sell, as long as the future owner wouldn't move the team. For as bad as Wang is, he does have local roots.

We are certainly stuck with Wang for the long haul. First, if nothing becomes of this vote and we continue to be stuck, no one would buy this team, and second, if a deal does come and he gets a new arena with concessions, parking and concerts/events than he's not giving up his cash cow. So I just hope he gets so involved with the Coliseum development and all the surrounding business matters like the maintenance and vending/parking and entertainment, that he's forced to leave the hockey club to only hockey people and not meddle in the teams operations.

I agree totally Depot.
If we get the 400 million prize the team stays and that's all well and good. But with the revenue sharing and the money that the county would get its hands on to pay back the money....you have to wonder if any dough would be left to spend for the on-ice product. It would be SMG-like all over again.
To hell with that arrangement.

If gross revenue goes up on all events including hockey, the money to be repaid is fixed so it shouldn't lower the revenue mark UNLESS he runs the Coliseum like he runs the Isles....
But a new venue will guarantee more dates/shows and events (of higher impact as it's a more desirable venue in theory), and the seating totals are up as well.
I think he'll manage to remain cheap but it's not gonna hurt his bottom line.
