Isles announce captain Doug Weight is done for the year.

Class act, won't likely be remembered as an Islander, but a great guy and a great player.

Now there's a surprise.

I hope they keep him in the organization. He's a great face/personality for this club. I don't know if he'd make a good coach, but if he's interested, I see Chenowth and Allen as quite dispensable.
I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

He's as much an Islander as LaFontaine is a Ranger...

What a waste of a million bucks!
Chris Botta: Ray, how come you are so critical of the Islanders?

Ray Ferraro: Because they the last time they won a playoff series, I passed the puck to David Volek!

True, but I hope he does intend to be apart of the organization. As an important part of the recent history of USA hockey and as a class act on and off the ice, I hope he stays. For those who remember his first year here, there were at least 2 or 3 times he dropped the gloves to defend a teammate. He played the game the right way, and he has more to offer around these parts than anyone else in the front office does. Hope he stays around either behind the bench or in the front office.

It never hurts to have classy people surrounding your organization and Mr. Weight sure fits into that category...it would be nice if they found something for him...other than Head Coach that is... ;)

Pretty sure it's gonna be that Butch Groban character that announces the games.

Maybe Tavares will give up 91 for him.

He was done a long time ago and his salary helped circumvent the cap floor.
Glad he gave Tavares some guidance but he brought as much leadership/success as General Custer did.

I'll remember him for being misused at the point while playing with one shoulder. Thank you Mr. Overspeed.

He was on the bench v. the Raggies tonight. Hopefully Dougie will run the PP next season as asst coach.
I miss these :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: and want more of them

That was kinda sad to see him in a suit making notes on a piece of paper. I know every player must hang up the skates at sometime and it's Weights time. I think he's a better choice behind the bench than our current asst coaches.

I thought it was kinda cool, actually. He looked like he was enjoying it, tapping some guys and making some suggestions. He would be welcome behind the bench, IMO.

As for hangin' 'em up, I think he knows its time. he had a very good run and if this season didn't prove he's past it, nothing ever will.

Sad? Maybe, but he has a place here if he wants it, i'm sure.

I'm not sure it means that he's going to coach next year, but maybe he was giving it a trial run. They'll probably have him doing all sorts of stuff to end the season and he will make a decision on what fits him the best.
