2 interesting articles today.

First, from this morning by Katie Strang:

Hilbert not skating; DiPietro feeling good

10:46 AM By Katie Strang

Andy Hilbert, who left the ice yesterday with a groin strain, will not practice today.

On the other and, Rick DiPietro will. No huge surprise there, but considering what coach Scottt Gordon said yesterday, that's an encouraging sign.

Gordon said the team would proceed with caution with DiPietro's schedule--i.e. give him a day off if he felt sore--but by all indications he's feeling well.

***Islanders owner Charles Wang and his son are here to watch today's practice. New Isles defenseman James Wisniewski came into the stands, introduced himself to Wang and thanked him for bringing him to Long Island.

Then, Botta just a while ago had this one:

ISLANDERS, DiPIETRO GET SMART
Team announces goalie’s scheduled day off
September 19th, 2010 by admin No Comments

2:00 pm: As announced by the NYI, Rick DiPietro will have a scheduled day off on Monday. Might seem like minor news, but it is not. Holding the goalie back on Day 3 is evidence the Islanders’ medical staff and DiPietro - who turns 29 today - have learned the hard way that less is more. Announcing the move ahead of time to the media and fanbase is evidence, simply, that they have learned. Bravo.

So if ALL is good, why the hell are they scheduling a day off and announcing it?
Strang got the scoop that our ahem, coach said they'd give him a day off if he felt sore.
Well, I guess he felt sore after DAY 3. So ALL is NOT good.

Botta says they have learned. No they haven't. They'll never learn. Keep controlling the media and feeding us bullcrap. Hope I'm wrong but unfortunately this to me sounds like the same soap opera.

Am I wrong here?

"Gordon said the team would proceed with caution with DiPietro's schedule--i.e. give him a day off if he felt sore--but by all indications he's feeling well."

Well, he came back and played every night, so Gordon figured not playing him through pain might work better this year.

I see this as the beginning of something beautiful for the Islander fanbase.

"clearly it's Rick DiPietro's stupidity that's put the islanders in this situation getting into an altercation when a game was over..." Keith Jones on VS

"But the Coliseum became a repository for all the team's troubles, a convenient scapegoat. There were suggestions that no major free agent ever would set foot in such a decrepit place. We have two words for anyone making that argument: Fenway Park. History says free agents would play in an old boxcar if they got enough money and had a chance to win." - Mark Herrmann

Jerry, if Rick DiPietro was a horse, they would have shot his ass 3 years ago.
I've had enough of this saga.

I will not jump to conclusions. This means nothing. Rick DiPietro is healthy and fine. Raring to go to prove that he is healthy once and for all. There is no saga involved here. Everything is purr-fect. :)

I saw him.
he looked fine.
he looked fine in net during the on ice drills and walked by without any noticeable difficulty when he was headed both to and from the work out room.

Maybe he really does just want a day off and it means absolutely nothing.

Just as a side note but Katie Strang twittered about 1hr after posting that article that DP would have the scheduled day-off.

I took that to mean that right now he's on a 2 day on 1 day off schedule for the first week of training camp. I'm not a fan of the DP saga but I think them going cautious the first week of training camp is fine.

If DP needs time off once the season starts then I'll be more concerned but thats just me. :dontknow:

I'll worry about the DP if he is out for the season. We really don't have any other choice. He is getting a shot. Keep your fingers crossed and hope the Rice Crispie trio don't have their way with him.

Only day 3 at camp and we are already seeing days off and discussions on his health. I'll just ask you all one question. This job requires durability, and can you honestly believe that DP has the durability to be an NHL goaltender day in and day out for 8 months? For me it will always raise doubts as to his readiness.

I sold it all, retired and moved to Fabulous Las Vegas!

1st line
Seeing the glass half full, imagine what we would be writing about if they didn't tell the fans up front that he would be taking a day off and Katie Strang tweeted that DP was not at practice.

Did he go to the workout room after practice?

I hope everyone understands WHY some of us ask the questions we do. Unlike what IslandersWin86 may think that this thread is predictable, we feel the saga/drama with Rick is predictable. That's why lil things like this get talked about more than they should.

But after reading aries44475's post, I think that conclusion sounds most rational for now.
Still, 3 year's of this stuff??? We have been lied to before by the org.

If he plays a significant amount of games and is just ok in net, he'll probably win the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

Steve - I totally get why the question is asked cause I agree the organization has either lied directly too us or lied by omission many times since the Gordon era began. To your point though because the org and the DP saga has been whats its been the last 2-3 years I set my sights low in regards to DP. Its sad that I would consider this season a success for DP if he played the role of a quality backup...you know maybe 25-30 games and no trips to IR.

I almost wish DP was a pr!*k so that I wasn't rooting for him to come back to be a quality goalie and help lead the Islanders to the playoffs as the young core matures. I find that my heart and mind fighting in regards to the DP saga.

Coach Gordon told the media that Rick DiPietro has scheduled off days on Thursday and Sunday. He will play in Saturday's Orange vs. Blue scrimmage. Click here for tickets.

He also said that the lines as they have been through camp will stay the same through the scrimmage. They will be changed after Saturday.

Some housekeeping details...

16 m ago By Katie Strang

-The Islanders are operating on quite a different training camp schedule this year--the team will have practiced almost two weeks before playing their first pre-season game Sept. 29--and as a result we won't see the roster trimmed as early, either.

Considering the team's playing split-squad games--on both September 29 and October 2--they need all the bodies they can get. Gordon did say he'll be headed to Saskatoon next Wednesday.

-In addition to today, Rick DiPietro will have scheduled off days on Thursday and Sunday of this week to allow him a day of rest after every two days of practice. Gordon said they have not yet determined a schedule beyond that.

--According to a source, the Islanders have begun discussions with first-round pick Nino Niederreter's agent about his entry-level contract. Nothing to report yet, though.

yeh, I know precautionary. Gotta prevent swelling but everything is just swell.
