Ignition Module Problems; Ignition Module Failed Again

I just bought a 1988 Trooper that needs some work.It needs an ignition module again as the last one died about six months ago. Any idea what would cause this?My buddy drove this truck as a DD until the recent issues. He's taken it to the garage and now they don't want to look at it any more.Im new to the Trooper scene but have had my eye on this truck for a while.its also backfiring to the point where it damaged the exhaust.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thx

If it is backfiring, I would maybe look at the timing.

Any ideas why the module would fail again?

If it needed an ignition module it wouldn't be running. Backfiring is usually caused by exhaust leaks or improper fuel pressure. If I was going to take a shot in the dark based on the little information you've provided here I'd say that things been worked on by some cowboys who don't really know anything about it and are tired of having their asses handed to them. If you want to get right down to brass tax I can help you diagnose exactly what is wrong with your truck but it takes an interactive process and you have to be willing to do your part. You be the eyes and ears and it'll be like I'm standing right there. First things first, does it EVER just run smooth and strong, even if just for a minute?

I finally got around to putting a battery in the Trooper and checking it out.It starts and idles until warm then sputters and dies.Any ideas?
