So I replaced my passenger rear brake cable this last weekend, custom ordered, which appeared to be about 2 inches short after full adjustment (That's another story). So on my way to work and turning a corner suddenly it felt like I had only front brakes (Heart jumping experience). Long story short, dropped it off at local mechanic while at work and was told I needed two new rear brake calipers as they seized up and the wheel will no longer spin (Really the passenger side but they of course suggested both). So after the the estimated $710 repair I had it towed home to work on. Now for my questions: Can they be "un-seized"? OR should I replace with new? Looks like napa auto has some decent ones for about $64/each. Feeling like brakes are pretty important and having a young child so I am leaning toward new calipers. Any Thoughts? I have watched Johnny5's videos on the rear brake change and feel confident in completing that task, Thanks Johnny! Side Note and should prolly be posted elsewhere: I am also looking for a heater core as my inlet pipe has crumbled. Nobody seems to have these anymore and was told to go to a local radiator shop to see if they could repair it. I have not pulled it yet as I would rather not do that labor unless I can locate a new one. It is currently bypassed. Edited by Shiftlogic, Oct 4 2014, 10:50 AM.

Rebuilding brake calipers is not a hard job at all but certainly do not do it of you are not comfortable with it. I have always viewed brakes as the single most important item on any vehicle. |

Ernie, have you ever had a Trooper rear caliper apart? |
