Hi all My 89 trooper (4 cylinder with timing belt) had been treating me so well that I sold off my other car and made it my daily driver and not too long after that I got a leak in the water pump. From what I can tell to get the water pump out I need to take off the upper and lower timing covers and to take off the lower timing cover I need to take off the crankshaft pulley. And that is where I am currently stuck. When I put a socket on the pulley nut I just turn the engine and can't break the nut loose. Should I pull the radiator and try an impact gun? Is it reverse thread? I have the fan and shroud off right now any suggestions? I think I'll have a few more questions before I'm done. thanks Ben |

I don't turn the engine over and over just about an 1/8th to 1/4 turn before it gets too hard to turn. I haven't been able to get a bar on it yet but I feel like there should be a better way? |

I use an impact to remove it. Some have used a breaker bar wedged up against the frame and bump the starter (unhook coil 1st so it won't crank). Also saw where one end of a chain was wrapped around crank pulley and the other end was bolted/secured to frame or something. Try a search on the other forums. |

Not reverse threaded. Impact usually works, or brace breaker bar against frame and bump starter, as indicated above. |
