So I just realized today that the accelerator in my 89 trooper (2.6 that is pretty stock in the fuel and accelerator area) has been sticking, I know it sounds strange but it was a small problem at first and today became much more noticeable. Anyway I haven't really looked at it yet but was just wondering if there were any major dos or don'ts when it comes to fixing this problem and lubricating the accelerator cable? Thanks Ben |

Sometimes the cable's rubber dust boot will cause the cable to stick, and you should check for any side to side slop in your throttle body shaft bushings. When adjusting the cable, remember that there are two adjustments...one at 0-throttle to set the cable @ min. slack , and the second at max throttle to a) make sure your throttle plate opens fully, and b) that the throttle cable is not yanking on the engine itself causing premature wear on the throttle body bushing and linkage assembly. This second adjustment is typicly done with the throttle pedal stop screw (bolt) located under the throttle pedal in the cab. You'll need a helper to put pedal to the metal and check the throttle plate opens fully, without the cable yanking on the engine. |
