Well it has been a long cold weekend working on the trooper. It started at 5:45 am Friday when the sub zero temps froze the mostly water that was in the radiator and the belt burned up. Everything has melted and there doesn't seem to be any leaks. But in the process of draining the radiator, I broke of the drain plug on the radiator, I replaced that and broke the hose clamp leaving the bottom of the radiator. I fix that and while I was checking for leaks I noticed that the the lower bolt that holds the alternator was the wrong size. It was just a little too small in diameter. I had a spar alt with the right bolt so I replaced that too. During that project I pushed a wire from the alternator very close to the steering column and when I went to drive the trooper, it was running, that wire shorted out onto the steering column. Everything in the trooper went dark. No lights, nothing when I turn the key, no radio. It took me a while to find the problem and the whole time the wire basically welded itself to the column. After I found it and detached it there is still nothing. I checked all the fuses and they are all good, the wire still looks to be in good shape, not hard and burnt like they can sometimes get. Any ideas? Did I burn up the computer? That would be a great reason to pull the itec and put on the carb, but not sure if that is the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ben |

It was a fuseable link located between the battery and the passenger headlight in a little black rectangular box, it was the one on the far left as you face the engine. It was labeled on the cover but that had worn off. Pretty cheap and easy fix once I figured it out. |
