Emergency brake cable; Replacing broken parking brake cable

The emergency brake cable broke on my 91 trooper it broke on the driver rear right where it attaches to the spring. Cable is in multiple links. When I call part stores they have front upper and intermediate but the only rear they can get is the right rear it does not appear to me to be interchangeable. Rick auto has the same options but no left (driver) rear. Anybody know about this?

You'll need to get ahold of Jerry (jlemond@bellsouth.net) and give him your Vin and the production date, both of these are in the sticker in the driver's door jamb.

I have a 90 and replaced the drivers side e-brake cable in april. Oreilly's only listed one rear cable (don't remember if it is right or left) Since there are keepers for the cable, i bought the one that was available ( i think the passenger side) and put it on the drivers with no problems. It was about 60 bucks. No problems if you don't count the complaining of my son crawling in and out from underneath adjusting that is... Hope this helps. D

If anyone else finds their self in this situation I have found that for my vehicle both the rear right and rear left are the same cable and are interchangeable. I soaked the cable with oil so that the cable would slide freely again inside the housing. It's amazing how much better they work now! Also the brake noise when I first drive the vehicle in the morning is gone. I was assumed this to be at the trooper mating call that I would just live with but apparently brake cable was not releasing quick enough in the housing. I'm quite pleased with the results!
