Ok, so apparently I had disconnected the Idle Air Control. Now that's all cleared up, it's back to the drawing board. But, if anyone asks, you CAN run with the IAC disconnected. I lost that damned little clip in the process. Hope it stays on there. At least until I GET A CARBURETOR on her.

So is it running right again?

No. It's still not running right. Of course, all the ECT testing has been deemed a bit unreliable. I'm gonna eat dinner and catch up on some drawings. I'll tackle it later with a new outlook.

ECT? Drawings? WTF?

The coolant temperature sensor - correctly called the ECT for engine coolant temperature sensor. Isn't that like the first thing we said I should replace? Besides the whole intake with a carburetor, smartass.

And I need to draw up some stuff for work. So people will hire me to build things for them and I can afford to run out to Daleville and pick up 2 Troopers and bring them home and put a carburetor on mine and a round eye conversion, and live happily ever after.

My bad, I usually see ECT and think "Electronically Controlled Transmission"... I know you've got a REALLY short term memory, but as I recalled you were still using the stock 5 speed and hadn't done the ever-so-popular "5 Speed to Auto" swap.

Don't know that this'll be any kind of comparitive reference Tim, but when I got back from the meet-up I wanted to get some base-line #'s on my new motor for future reference.

I would note that these results were from a compression test done @ 7000 ft elevation ...and ambient air pressure is significatly less at this altitude.

Sea level average-29.9 (inches Hg)
7000 ft.-23.1 (inches Hg)

These readings are not just good, they are really, really good...I was concerned at first but the manual's specs are @ sea level reference. As my local mechanic told me, if one would expect to see a new motor read in the 160-170 range...then these numbers simply reflect the 18% less ambient air pressure at my altitude.

130, 125,130,126

What's even more important I'm told is how close together these readings are across cylinders...and the basis for John's build to idle so smoothly I can barely feel my hand vibrate when putting palm to valve cover.

I'm no expert, but your wide range may be a matter of valve adjustment perhaps? I don't know.

Obviosly you've got compression in all cylinders, ...may not be the greatest readings but I doubt they'd be an indicator of the cause of your stumbling symptoms.

I'll defer to J-5's analysis ...

Auto? They're for pussies. I rock an MUA-5 non-modified dual overhead pinion nut bearing.

Thanks Eric. Keep the ideas coming.

What's an "armchair mechanic" good for if he can't do some research? LOL!!!

You guys can have some fun with this:

Actually I get my hands dirty , according to eyewitness reporting....but I admit there is some truth to the notion I may be a "trooper-condriac" , as I'm too much of a chicken shit to take it all apart to see how it works in the hopes that I may be fortunate enough to figure out how it all goes back together again and actually works as it's supposed to..IE: An engine build for example. Unless I just had a spare one around I could play with for shits and giggles to see whether or not I would build me a grenade under my hood ...BADA_BOOM!
