Patrick, I feel as comfortable with my knowledge of the ITEC as I do with my carb setup, I just choose to use the simpler, more reliable and easier to work on of the two. ITECs can be completely overhauled and rebuilt using mostly good used and maybe somewhat refurbished parts, but when you've got 10 or 15 ITECs to pull from it's not too hard to make a solid runner. The problem is that at the end of the day, there's just no benefit that I can see. It's still big, bulky, hard to work on and around, etc... I've actually worked out solutions for a LOT of the ITECs downsides and am all set to go on a stripped down to the basics, no bullshit reliable ITEC, but I'm only willing to supply parts and information, somebody else is going to have to build it because I don't have the time or the motivation. If you wanna talk I'd love to talk about it.

That sounds like a plan. I've been waiting to get the extra parts together to build exactly what you're talking about. My IAC is stuck I believe so I figure if I'm going to dive in that far, I want everything to be fresh. I actually mentioned to Dad a few months ago that we need to acquire something to trade you for one of your old ITEC setups do we could have an extra one. My goal is to have an extra engine in a stand at all times just in case one of ours takes a shit.

I know you know ITECs ... I also know how much you hate working on them. I'm probably just a glutton for punishment but it peaks my interest. Learning and mastering the ITEC , that is.

Thanks Ron. It was annoying; but I knew it was something simple.

Patrick. It was ITEC related. If you're going to be the ITEC guru, you'll need to know that the carb set-up does away with the FPR as well as all the other bullshit NASA threw on there to confuse us.

Man! She's never come up the mountain like that. Actually got the temp up to mid-scale until I got to the top and hit level pavement. I think I'm going to buy a NEW FPR and put it on. I'm kind of leery about one that's probably 25 years old and has been sitting dry for several years. It does seem to have new life, however. I'm wondering if I haven't had seepage for some time now and all the other problems threw me off. The real test will be mileage. Until now, nothing I did made the mileage go above about 17. I know these things are capable of better. And yes, John, or Luke, or Darth, or Obi, or whoever you are tonight, I know you get over 20 MPG with your carburetor. I'm working toward that goal.

I have a burning desire to analyze this thing to death. I think it would truly be an eye-opening experience for anyone who's dead set on running their ITECs forever. I mean look at the symptoms and the eventual solution. I'd like to know why my plugs "fouled" progressively. The worst being #1. The "best" being #4. Or, is that a symptom that occurs only when you have gasoline running rampant in your vacuum system and your compression is 140, 120, 120, 130. Or, is the plug fouling issue a result of injectors not firing the same volume of fuel which is a result of the FPR not putting out the correct pressure. Not sure that was a complete sentence but I'm on a roll.....And it the injector for #1 is physically further from the supply than #4, Voila! Crap. That doesn't make sense. The thing was running rich..... Oh well, I'll think about it later. My head hurts.

I'm going to cut the FPR in half when I get a minute. I'll post pics.

Piques. Not peaks.

Anyway, you can unplug your IAC and drive around with no effect......well, that is if your fuel pressure regulator is about to take a shit. Kinda like the O2 sensor on Johnny's rig. Or maybe it's just mine that blinks on and off when I unplug it. Hey! You can have my ITEC for 250 bucks when you help me rebuild the 2.3 that Milton has and get it installed in my rig. I'll throw in a free Coolant Temp sensor.

Coming to AL, I averaged 20.5 cruising at 75mph, there and back....with the ITEC. Worse I ever see is about 19.5.

Damn man. I've never seen anything above 17. I've tried the ethanol free route and the additive route. I'm currently using an enzyme that is supposed to neutralize the ethanol. I do see a bit more pep but nothing in the MPG department. I'm hoping this latest fix will bump it up some.

Keep my fingers crossed for ya.

On a side note, I'm not going carb route for the MPG. I'm afraid I may actually lose a few. I'm just wanting to see how well I can make the old girl run.
