![]() ![]() Exar Kun's Sith Empire was hardly homogeneous. Formed from a series of alliances of convenience, it was a league of vastly disparate individuals united under a single ideal. The resurgence of Sith is owed almost entirely to Freedon Nadd, who sparked the chain reaction which led to the events of the Great Sith War, beginning with a Jedi intervention on Onderon which saw his tomb confiscated off-world. Following the conversion of Ulic Qel-Droma, to view came the Krath, rulers of Empress Teta, who themselves derived their teachings from the wisdom they rescued off Onderon in the wake of the Jedi purge. Uniting against the Jedi as a common enemy, they in turn secured the allegiance of various Dark Side worshippers such as the Mecrosa Order of assassins, as well as the support of other unaligned factions such as crime syndicates, mercenaries, and, of course, the famed Mandalorian crusaders, who were bound by honor to serve after their leader, Mandalore the Indomitable, was defeated in a duel by Qel-Droma. Although a powerful force, however, the Sith Empire lacked stability as many, if not all of its most prominent members were pursuing their own agendas. With Qel-Droma's betrayal and Mandalore's death, the Krath and Mandalorian Crusaders were scattered, resulting in the instant dissolution of a very large portion of the Empire's forces. When Exar Kun himself died on Yavin, taking the planet's surface with him, and the Mecrosa Order was almost entirely eradicated by a Jedi purge, those who yet held power within the Empire struggled to keep it for themselves. Various Sith, Dark Jedi, Cultists, and the like all squabbled for what remained of the Empire's once vast territory. Pushed to the edges of known space, their fight was just as much with each other as it was with the Jedi who pursued them, each warlord wanting to be the one to gain hegemony, and restore the Empire as its new Dark Lord... until shortly, the only possible course of action became flight and refugee. |
