CANTHRIS, DARIAN'S LANDING, DARION

Roughly a year ago, a peasant by the name of Horus, merely a field hand in the farms of Virenhal (Cimera Province), claimed that he was descended from Darian Magnus, specifically one of his several bastard children that he had rumored to have fathered during the Great Crusade. The Ruby Throne took no interest in the claim: it was not the first time, nor would it be the last, that a fool proclaimed he had divine blood. The Church of Magnus, however, officially did not recognize the rumor of Darian's supposed bastards, believing the notion to be heresy. A band of templars along with the Archbishop of Tiraangard arrived in Virenhal to investigate, wishing to quell any irreligious teachings before they spiraled out of control. The Archbishop took no time in declaring Horus a heretic and ordering his arrest. What happened was a rout -- followers of Horus ambushed the templar retinue and slaughtered them to a man. The Archbishop was then beheaded during a mock trial, with Horus declaring a "crusade" to liberate the Imperium from the grips of the "false believers."

What originated as a mere whisper erupted into a firestorm, as peasants all over Cimera flocked to Horus' banner, declaring his host to be the "Sons of Horus" and began to sack nearby villages for weapons and wealth in order to fund his crusade. The rebellion captured imperial attention when the garrison at Fort Ranth was overrun, and the rebels could properly arm and armor themselves. His Most Serene Majesty Wilhelm I Navira would have no more of it, calling for banners of the provinces immediately around Darian's Landing to be formed into a legion and meet this threat. His eldest son, Heinrich Navira, was given the command on account of his ability, and dispatched north to Cimera to put down the revolt to the fullest extent possible. The longer the firebrand remained alive, the more people flocked to his cause, his rag-tag army growing exponentially. Before the legion could arrive, Horus laid siege to Tiraangard, knowing that a serious victory such as taking a major city would embolden his cause. He would never get the chance. The pitched battle that happened outside of the city was a massacre, the Sons dispersed to the four corners of Cimera.

Unfortunately for the Empire, Horus escaped during the battle. Heinrich's attempts to restore order were stymied by guerilla warfare from the heretics, raiding supply caches and picking off patrols. The prince was near ready to call for another legion to pacify the province when the Red Cloaks captured Horus, apparently on his was to Arval Keep in some delusion that the Order of the Traveller would accept him as an initiate. With Prince Heinrich staying behind to restore order, the Red Cloaks took Horus to the capital, placing him in the imperial dungeons to await trial. Many expected Emperor Wilhelm to just execute Horus and be done with the matter, but he shocked everyone when he called the Landsmeet to Canthris to decide on Horus' fate and "feast in celebration of the Empire's victory." Many suspect the Landsmeet and the feast to merely be another extravagance that is bore by the state, the triumphal parade itself amounting to one of the most expensive events in recent memory.

The Ruby Throne reminds the people of the Empire, who have not seen a Landsmeet in several generations, that it is open primarily to the aristocracy, but also notable organizations, guilds, and institutions (but only the aristocracy have speaking rights). You may bring all members of your household, but know that all servants will be restricted to the palace kitchens and servant quarters during the Landsmeet and the feast.
