I love it when they get production team people in to talk. I loved seeing Michelle Clapton year before last (interestingly enough just after she had left GOT at the beginning of S5 before she went back, so maybe there are contractual restrictions) as well as one of the lady producers and Gemma Jackson. Absolutely fabulous. YES.... con organizers should do more with talks from production people, yes please!! |

Lovely old lady, I think I've read somewhere that she's over 80, cosplayed as Olenna. And her daughter, well in her years too, was Brienne! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I’m here, anyone else? Have gone to a Sibel Kekilli/Shae panel, she was charming. She kept apologizing for her English but she was pretty good. Highlights: She’s good friends with George RR Martin and had Thanksgiving at his house last year. She said she had a “terrible” audition for Shae and actually turned the role down until Dan and David sent her a very glowing and convincing email. She kept the necklace. Her hardest scene was her death scene because she didn’t want to die and that was actually the last scene she filmed. She keeps in touch with Dan, David, peter and Lena. Her first scene filmed was the first scene with her in it. On a shopping note, I bought a tiny red Lannister dog sweater for my little dog and a Brienne of Tarth enamel pin at the marketplace. |

Thanks! The other interesting panel I went to today was Tommy Dunne, the weapons master. I asked him whether he designs the swords to the actors’ height (Gwen vs Kit). He said the first season since they recast after the pilot, their swords were made for them (the first actors), but they do get measurements for them if they are making them to fit a specific person. Someone asked who he wouldn’t want to go up against in a sword fight, and he said CEO OF JB MEDIA, INC., that he is the best sword fighter and that he came to the series already trained and that he already worked with him on Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven. Then he said Kit was next best and then Maisie. He said Rory started out with 2 left feet but got a lot better. He also said that they use rubber swords and bamboo swords for fights, but he always gives Gwen a bamboo sword because “she’s a strong girl” and they want her to pull back and not go all out when she’s fighting. That’s because they break easily and the rubber swords never break. Tons of panels tomorrow, not so much on Sunday. Edited by Deb, May 26 2018, 08:57 AM.

Dammit, I REALLY want to see NCW in a real swordfight! Kit really is good on screen, very fast and agile, so if this expert trainer thinks NCW is better...GIMME IT NOW. We haven't seen this exercised yet! |

Full report later, but I am here to report that Joe Dempsie is hot. He also has very soft hands (I shook his hand, get your minds out of the gutter). |

He put his arm around me, so I put my arm around him. He shook my hand twice. I will remember this always. Okay, day 2 recap. We started off with Paula Fairfield, the sound designer. Her panel was good but sparsely attended. She says she mainly goes to cons to encourage women to go into film and tv production and says there are only 5% females in sound design. She became a sound supervisor and hired herself as sound designer on some projects. She has a database of millions of sounds. She likes natural sounds that she can manipulate than artificially produced sounds. All the direwolf sounds are from her dogs. She does all the WMDs differently, Drogon is like a reincarnated Drogo and the other two are Beavis and Butthead. She did the ice WMD sounds thinking that in the future/season 8,there may be a scene where they would need to have both a regular WMD with fire and an ice WMD with blue ice,so she tried to make the ice WMD sounds compatible. Sound design comes near the end of production after the visual effects are mainly done. She does all the sounds full out and then the mixer will put in the different levels of sound and music. She was really proud that the music cut out for Viseron’s death, it was only her sound. Next was Mitlos’ panel. It was similar to last years but he is still charming and engaging to the crowd. He does a lot of plays and would love to be in something sci fi next. He said he got cast in the force awakens without an audition because of Nina Gold, and he didn’t know his part until he went for his costume fitting. He likes Arya the best for obvious reasons and then his next favorite is Jaime. He also auditioned for Varys. They were also going to shave his head for Syrio to match the description in the books but George said he didn’t have to. Then there was a joint panel with Tommy Dunne and Paula Fairfield. Both said you are only as good as your last work and that Game of Thrones didn’t lead them to their next jobs but it’s really through the people they meet along the way. They are both doing something for Jack Ryan and Tommy is doing something for Michael Bay. Tommy has displays of a lot of the weapons he makes at his shop. Esme Bianco/Ros was next, she said her scene and maybe one other were the only thing left from the original pilot. She was just “red headed whore” but George told them to give her a name. When she got the call from David and Dan that she was being killed off, they didn’t tell her how, so she had to find out later. When she was filming, she tried to die on camera but they told her she was already dead. She also auditioned for Shae. Her last scene she filmed was with Shae and Sansa. She got some blue dress she wore to keep. Next was a VIP panel with all the actors and behind the scenes people. Hannah Murray told Joe Dempsie when they were out that THE WALKING TALKING DEAD Snow dies and that she thought he was coming back (this was before it happened on the show). She talked about how she and Kit pranked John Bradley with a crazy Henry the 8th outfit they said he was going to wear when they went to his castle and when he found out he said, “You are all a bunch of cunts.” Kerry Ingram and Liam Cunningham exchanged presents when Shireen died and they each kept one of the stags (there were 5 of them). Then I got my Joe Dempsie pic, he was very nice (and hot). We then went to the kids panel, Sam Coleman (young Hodor), Aimee Richardson and Kerry Ingram were there. Nothing too much of note. Kerry said Liam was her mentor there and always made sure she was okay. Aimee said Lena was her mentor and always talked to her and was always friendly and gave her advice. Joe Dempsie’s panel was next. He said he was surprised he and Hannah are still recognized from Skins. He said he was in Belfast for his first trip back last season for like 10 minutes in the airport when someone snapped a picture of him and it was all over the internet. He said he looked terrible and was only wearing shorts and sandals because it was so hot in London. He said he is good friends with Kit and Liam and Finn THE WALKING TALKING DEADes and Gwen (and that when they go out, it looks so weird because she’s so tall and he’s not). Spoiler: click to toggle He said that they told him to practice with a sledgehammer to get ready for his scenes last year but then gave him a foam hammer to work with. He also said that when they were in Iceland, they would film the group scenes at each location, then everyone would wrap except for him and they would just film him running the other way! The last thing I went to was some Burlington Bar watch show where they drink and watch episodes. Yesterday they did the 7th season finale with Paula Fairfield and the kid actors and it was bad, they didn’t really talk about the episode. Tonight’s was better, they had Paula Fairfield, Miltos and Tommy Dunne. It was fun to watch with the people who help make the show - it was the Spoils of War. Tommy made the scorpion, so we all cheered when it came out. And Miltos did a little dance when Arya sparred with Brienne. Only a couple more panels tomorrow! Edited by Deb, May 27 2018, 12:21 AM.

You’re welcome! I don’t do art or write, so this is my small way of contributing to the site! Okay, last day. I went to get a picture with Hannah Murray. She was very nice. After that, I ran to a meet and greet with Paula Fairfield. She builds all of her own sound studios herself and mainly works from home. I asked her about how she evolved the WMD sounds as they grew and she said she tries to keep each WMD with its own personality. She sometimes lowers the sounds as they grew but after a while, they start to sound too artificial. She also redoes the wing sounds every couple of years. It was a very small panel so we were all able to ask questions, which was nice. She said she didn’t know what to expect last year at the con, but our enthusiasm from last year and appreciation of her work made her work even harder for the 7th season. She hasn’t started working on the last season yet, maybe in November. She says she doesn’t read the scripts, the first time she knows what happens is watching a rough cut of the shows. She will basically try to add layered sounds almost frame by frame. Next was the Hannah Murray panel. She said she auditioned a lot for Nina Gold for a lot of other projects before landing Gilly and that she got the job right when she was graduating university. She was very excited when they told her she was getting a costume change but didn’t want to make her transformation be a “She’s all that” reveal. She said that Kit used to tease her about her costume and nicknamed her Sack. Her favorite scenes with her in them is the long tracking scene right before the attack on Molestown and then the baby Sam naming scene. She said they had like 4 babies interchanging at first for the first few years, the twins for the last two seasons and new twins for the last one. They tried to get her to give out spoilers but the only thing she said is that she works this year with a lot of people she was excited to work with. She had wanted to do a scene with Stephen Dillane but the one scene they had together, TALKING HAM entered the room and Gilly promptly left it. She said it’s been a collaboration with John Bradley to make their relationship sweet but not sickly sweet. And that Gilly seems to only be interested in her, Sam and baby Sam, she joked that maybe Gilly sees THE WALKING TALKING DEAD as a rival for Sam’s attention. She did say she would want a female on the iron throne. She seemed sweet and kind of shy. She did say she didn’t realize the Raegar reveal would get so much attention. Next was a panel with Tommy Dunne. He said he’d be up for working on the spinoffs. He loves to incorporate the fantasy stuff based on historical weapons. They usually have one “hero” sword made of steel for closeups, then some aluminum swords, then rubber and bamboo. He said he did a push up and arm wrestling contest with Russell Crowe during Gladitator and won! He’s had a few cameos on the show, he shaved a bunch of guys (THE WALKING TALKING DEAD Snow?) in the first season fiirst season to keep up with continuity and also was the blacksmith who reforged Ice into Oathkeeper and Widows Wail - he said his actual blacksmith for his weapons company played his assistant on screen so it was funny because Steve (his assistant) is really a much better blacksmith that he is. The scorpion worked but only shot about 20 feet. Jerome Flynn came to his shop to learn how to use it. He was supposed to stay an hour but only stayed 5 minutes because he had a massage booked. Tommy Dunne was given the Game of Thrones script by a friend of his. He put it away and didn’t read it and when the guy called to see if he wanted to do it, he said yes without really going through the script. So he kind of fell into it. That’s about all I can think of, the con is basically over. I think they’ll probably have it again next year. Edited by Deb, May 27 2018, 09:32 PM.

And her daughter, well in her years too, was Brienne!

That’s because they break easily and the rubber swords never break.
