OOC: closed for me and Cain, if you want in you better send either of us a pm! It was late, incredibly late even as the early hours moved closer and closer. The white haired missing nin were simply sitting there by the fire she had made up to keep her warmth. She figured that she was getting closer and closer to the Crystal Country, considering how low the temperature had gotten as she traveled. It hadn't started to snow yet, but it was sure to come the next day or the day after. Either way it was cold as hell and Shiro was getting sleepy. The darkness fell around her... --------------------------------- Trees flashed by as she ran for all she was worth, which was quite a lot in her mind, and she was getting exhausted from the ordeals she had been through just a little while ago. Well it wasn't exactly a little while as she had been running for quite some time. She was scared, among other things, so her sense of time was a bit off at the moment. Sooner rather than later collapsed she in the middle of god knows where due to exhaustion. However thanks to her will to survive didn't she lose her consciousness and it was thanks to that that she managed rise a little. She was now sitting down in a relaxed position, leaning against a tree, panting like she had lost her ability to breath. The thought of being in safety came to mind, but Shiro could't really calm down. In the end was she sitting there, dressed in nothing but a doctors coat covered in blood, with her knees at her chin shivering. No need to say that she had just gone through something traumatizing. |

It had been one of those long days for Katashi. He'd started out running a small assortment of wares in one of the core country villages, though that was fairly brief as he only needed to make enough cash to pay for his basic necessities before making his exit to return to one of many hideouts he'd set up for himself over the years. It, like most of the others, wasn't anything special, just a hidden two room complex with necessities like a bed, some storage space, and a few tools to maintain his gear. Mostly he lived a spartan life when not putting on a persona. In any case, his hideouts where also where he did most of his planning and made his switch from mild mannered "Hikaru Yamamoto", to "the Shinigami of Red Sands." That day he had one particular bit of trouble on the schedule, one he'd been planning for a while. In order to give Giagakure a little more to think of other than just little old him, he was going to make an attack on a trade convoy heading from Echo county to Fang country then plant evidence hoping to raise conflict between the two. However, if his estimate of time and the knowledge on the convoy's schedule were acurate, they were either grievously late or had taken another rout. He'd shunshined all the way here, set everything up and spent half a day waiting in a bloody tree for nothing! Or so he thought. While brooding over his luck and watching the horizon he heard a noise, the rustling of someone running. Turning he searched out the sound and sure enough there was a girl. And what a sight she was, dressed in a bloodied coat. She stopped at a tree not to far from where he was hidden and it was clear she was in distress. With a quick glance in the direction he made sure she alone and there was no one that had fallowed her. Now he was at ends with himself, he hated seeing a woman in such dire straights, but this persona was one to frighten his enemies and hide who he was. He couldn't just go around helping anyone like this. He thought quickly then smiled to himself behind his mask, it was time he made his appearance. Extending Omen's pole but not it's blade he lept down and landed in a crouch a good 25 yards away from her. Then he turned on the theatrics by altering his voice to one much deeper as he rose slowly to full height and turning to look at her over his shoulder. "My, my, my, it's not often that a soul comes running out to me when I don't have a reaping scheduled." He dropped into a seated position with his legs folded while reducing the length of Omen's pole again. "You're at Death's door girl. Hmmm in more ways then one, and I don't take kindly to people interrupting me on my day off, so what brings you out here." He turned his his head so he wouldn't seem to be looking at her anymore, though watched her reflection in Omen's blade just in case she made any hostile movements. |

The Tanaka girl were riled up and all her senses where on edge, which meant quite a lot for those who knew about her capabilities. Her perception were oddly good for someone of her rank, so even when relaxing could she seem to notice everything around her. She didn't really know why, but it felt like her five senses were even more keen now than before. Could be because of her panic attack or perhaps something else, probably the latter. Did she smell gingerbread? So when the voice of a man reached her jumped she in shock as she hadn't noticed him approaching at all, which of course didn't make her current state of mind better. So she grabbed the scalpel she had stolen from one of the people she had seen when waking up, now dead people, and pointed it at the stranger. It was a really odd fellow who had shown up, but his overly ominous appearance reminded Shiro of some pictures of the Shinigami she had seen as a child. Especially with that scythe leaning at his shoulder. His voice was deep and what he said almost sent a chill down her already shaking spine. "W-w-wasn't exactly trying to day..." she stuttered and paused for a second. "...a-and what I'm doing is none of you business!" she gave the man a look that was ready to kill if she had too, which probably didn't come as a surprise for him considering her outfit. While she spoke could Shiro here a scuffling sound inside her head followed by a loud hissing sound. Probably her mind playing pranks on her... Edited by Robberix, Dec 11 2013, 01:15 PM.

The girl drew out a scalpel and benieth his mask Katashi raised an eyebrow. ::Well, this explains how she escaped whatever happened to her, though the way she acting doesn't seem like someone who simply murdered someone unprovoked. The fact that she's so jumpy means someone was left alive soooo..:: When she gave her reply to him the Shinigami simply gave an annoyed sigh. "Girl, I'm only going to say this once. Put that away. You're half naked, you've been running who knows how long like that, and your not going to regain your full strength in my underworld here." Now his ploy to mess with her head really began his mind formulating the method and form of his deception even as he spoke it, if she showed any sign of reaction to his comment of the underword he continued with an odd laugh and he voice rose in pitch slightly in imitation of a mocking voice. "Or didn't you notice when you passed under the trees forming the arch back that-a-ways?" His voice dropped to his normal shinigami voice before he added, "Heh, natures little torii gates. Where we are you really have no chance against me, and without my help you are going to have a hell of a time getting back." There wasn't really a set of arched trees but for now he was going to play his game a see if she'd fall for it. Really though it was funny how malleable memory could be to suggestion when the mind was stressed. "But really..." Triggering the blade to move into it's war scythe position he turned his head to look right at her and brought his index finger of his free hand to the corner of his mask's smile as if pointing at a dimple. He returned to his mocking voice while finishing, "Mine's bigger dearie." The blade snapped shut again as if to emphasis his point. "Sooo, I'm going to change my question a little. Who are you running from and why?" He turned his gaze forward and with the base of Omen on the ground he started to unleash the iron sand sealed in it's lower eye. Shiro couldn't help but give the figure a puzzling look when he spoke of her entering "his underworld" or domain if you will. Of course she had heard about arches of trees acting like the gate to the other plane where the dead spent their everlasting lives, well she had read about it in a book back at the academy. However, as far as she knew hadn't she passed under any arches on her way to her current location, but as most people know can panic play tricks on you. Similar to the constant hissing she was hearing, often followed by some kind of grim chuckling. Either way wasn't the girl sure whether this fellow was touched in the head or if he was who he gave himself to be. Things were, save for the whole meet and greet with Death here, going her way. She could feel it. Her heart rate and shivering had started to calm down, which meant that she was on the verge of gaining control of herself. Perhaps she could kill time by talking more to the stranger? "Y-you'd be surprised, Shinigami-san, what a half-naked woman can do with a knife!" she threatened him a bit, hoping that he wouldn't get closer. "I-I killed several people to get out of that hell hole and w-would c-certainly do it again if I have too!" Shiro didn't stop pointing the scalpel at the man for the whole duration of her kinda pathetic display. "F-f-from a place I won't return too, no matter how dear I used to hold it..." it was more of a mumble than an actual reply, but the stranger could probably hear her. Especially if he was a Gingerbread. |

::Uhg can this girl be any more vague? Now she has me damned curious. Still she has some fight in her so that's good I supose:: The shinigami gave another, sigh. "You try to help someone. Try to find out who they have grief with, butno." He started to stand but as he did her turned away from her to hide a set of hand seals. Then placing his hand on the ground he used Suna Heiki [Sand Weapons] to create what looked like a sand timer while also making a pair of coins in it's top section. However given it's construction the hour glass appeared entirely an opaque black. You couldn't see the sand inside only hear it. "I asked you only one simple request girl." He walked toward her slowly. "I really wish you had listened. It would have made things ever so simpler. See this here, is your life timer, once your last grain falls that is when we come for you, but you still have a fair time yet. Not that you'd be able to see it, mortals arn't allowed to know the number of breaths they have left. Spoils the surprise at the end. The point is I'm not supposed to take your soul yet. I could, but believe me, the paperwork is hell. Seriously we have souls damned to taking care of our normal paperwork for eternity." He paused to consider it then shook his head and started advancing. "Anyways..." As he got closer it became apparent the timer wasn't actually block but a dark red, like dried blood. Though this was only apparent a few steps before he released the jutsu keeping the sand timer and it fell apart leaving only the coins. "Since you arn't up for imple conversation, let's play a little game. I call it, 'Pennys for the Boatman." so saying he held up his two coins. "It goes like this, I'll let you make two requests from me, however the catch is you must also supply a cost you are willing to give for each request. If the request is one I'm willing to make I flip a coin. Heads, I adhere to your request. Tales, you pay the penalty." "So what would you ask for? It could be be anything. I could kill the remaining men in that little hell hole of yours, I could take you out of here, or I could bake you some gingerbread cookies. How much of a gambler are you?" As the man started to walk slowly towards her could Shiro feel that her body moved closer and closer to the tree behind her by itself, it obviously didn't want to confront the scythe wielding stranger and tried to escape from him. However it did stop as the giant hourglass shaped thing appeared from the ground, perhaps it was curiosity that had taken over. Shiro was a rather curious person by nature, but you'd think that she would ignore that due to the circumstances. She would listen on the man before tilting her head a bit to the side, similar to what cats does when puzzled. "Good thing then that I'm not the least interested in knowing about my death..." The girl got an eerie feeling from watching the black hourglass turn into a more dark redish color, a color very much similar to the vitae on her stolen coat. This was when she really realized that she was talking to a strange man wearing absolutely nothing but a white coat that she had looted from one of the doctors she had slain on her way here. Her face became bright red as she got embarrassed, she shook it away however. Being embarrassed wouldn't help her at the moment. Death offered an odd kind of deal, well it was more like a game than a deal. It reminded her about that chess game a fictional character had had with Death to stay alive, she couldn't remember how that ended though. She spent at least a few minutes in silence pondering what to do about her situation. One part of her really wanted to leave while the other wanted to take up the offer. "Hmm I might take up the offer, Shinigami-san, but as you probably can see is there little I can offer but my life..." she paused for a second. "...and I'm not willing to let go of that, so let me ask you a question: how about you decide? Gingerbread for gingerbread so to speak" she was telling the truth and he probably knew it. What the last part was, however, she had no idea. |

The shinigami held his hand over the mouth of his mask. "Oh my dear, don't tell me you are so unimaginative. You have ever so much to give. Your eyes, your ears, your fingers, those pretty locks of yours." He said this with a gesture to her hair with his scythe before continuing, "You could offer years of your life, or even services to render with your skills. I hear an open favor is often a favorite of some." He looked down at the coins in his hand playing with them a moment. "Buuuuut, before you get it into your head. No. I don't want any of, that." To emphasis his meaning this time he pointed down at her hips. By now he was just a few steps from her and squatted down. "You'd be surprised the kinds of things some people offer in order to save their hides when they supposedly have 'nothing." He stayed there a moment just staring at her face as if weighing her. Indeed, he was. He was judging what deal to make and he thought she might agree to. As an idea formed in his head he smiled behind his mask. How he phrased it was also going to be just as important as what he was asking. "Very well, I know what the first wager will be. I don't want Gingerbread, honestly he's a lousy race horse an would take too much work to care for. No, what I have decided for this first offer is that should you loose you'll murder someone of my choosing for me. If you win I will grant you safe and fast passage to a place near the boarders of your country where you would be able to stay hidden from those that you flee from, at least for a few days." He held up his two coins, one with heads pointed toward her the other with tails. "So do you accept? It could be anyone." |
