OOC: Mission App and OOC Thread here. IC: The first day, midnight. Shunshin no jutsu ended. Here Ken was, at the border between both the Echo and Fang countries. They had all agreed to meet here, in the middle of nowhere to plan the infiltration. The next border outpost was several miles away and he wasn't sure there was going to be any patrol coming this far, that was good. This mission was top-secret and apparently very important. The letter had stated that if they were caught, Gear would outrightly deny their existence. That was to be expected. The place was silent, except for the sound of crickets and the occasional hoot of an owl. The light from the full moon gave the only illumination around. A light breeze weaved through the surrounding trees, adding the sound of fluttering leaves to the mix. Ken's guard was up, this was the first mission he was going on since he joined the ANBU but funny enough it wasn't an ANBU mission. Ken stood under the moonlight, his back resting on the trunk of a tall tree standing in a clearing in the starting point of Fang country's endless forests, waiting for the rest of his team to arrive. He'd come very prepared for this mission, he'd packed several clothes for different occasions, he had several days worth of food and water all sealed in a small scroll in his pouch. He was wearing his normal clothes with his bandages but he wasn't wearing his headband or flak jacket. He opened his pouch and took out his menthol cigarettes. He took one out and lit the end with a tiny surge of Katon chakra. He put it in his mouth, took a modest drag and exhaled the smoke into the air, savoring the sweet scent. He looked at the bottle of Firewhisky and shook his head, he wasn't going to start drinking now. Not yet at least. ''These boys better start coming.'' He whispered to himself, taking another drag from his cig. Edited by Lestat, Dec 11 2013, 03:22 PM.

Shigure was never the first one to a mission site. He tended to show up once he had all his things together, organized, and ready to be used. His attire was normal, excepting his headband. He had been given a mission - not an ANBU mission, despite his hopes - to scout out Kodachigakure's status. Spies and informants were going missing more frequently of late, and it was the duty of the four man team to find out why that was happening as well. His outfit was buttoned, cuffed, and pressed to leave no trace of a wrinkle or tear. Shigure's hair was combed and styled with just enough gel to prevent any rebellious hairs from standing out of line while keeping him from looking like he had a greased toupee on his head. The Minamo boy knew how to do many things well, but his most perfected skill was the art of looking sharp. He made his way to the mission site to find one of his team members already there, puffing away at a cigarette. A very small glance at the cigarette was all the condescension Shigure would show, though in truth he hated smoking. It rotted the flesh. Worse still, it enslaved the mind. Those that smoked often did so as much out of necessity as for pleasure. "Crow." A curt acknowledgement of the man's known nickname would signal Shigure's arrival. The Silent Crow, as he was known in Gia, had earned himself a bit of a reputation. Enough for Shigure to have heard of him in name, if not in detail. "It seems we're to be working together. My name is Shigure Minamo. A pleasure." The pleasantry to Shigure's voice was countered by the coldness in his eyes. He was either very good at hiding his emotions, or he simply did not feel a single positive emotion when he addressed his first squadmate. |

"I HATE THE DESERT!!!" This trip had not been been a pleasurable one for the explosive nut. He had been ambushed by at least 7 groups of bandits on the way to the meeting point costing him hundreds in ammunition and attire cleaning. What was it with enemies that they thought that their exploded carcasses could deposit their bloody remains all over his clothes, particularly that last one. There's good reasoning why you don't ingest explosive tags let alone en mass. His clothes cleaned and his supplies restored, Takeo arrived at the meeting point looking far from amused. There were already two people there, two people he should probably have been wary of, but that really didn't bother him at this current point in time. He would completely dismiss the two who had already arrived, simply walk over to the nearest rock and sit down resting against it. He didn't care who they were, whether allies or not, but he needed to sit down, he'd been walking for long enough now. "Note to self, learn shunshin. I'm not doing that again." After a few minutes, or unless provoked by one of the others there, he would finally speak to them rather than himself. "So, are you the Gear shinobi I have the pleasure of working with or have I gone to the wrong random meeting place along the border of Fang country?" Takeo wasn't in the mood for working with humans today. Humans had made his life a misery lately, or at least awkward. Explaining blood soaked clothes to a random woman in some random village was never easy, though sometimes fun to see their reaction. |

Someone came just a few minutes after Ken got to the location. He was properly dressed, and very well so. He was taller and bigger than Ken and he was definitely older. Ken wasn't intimidated. He took another drag and exhaled into the cold air. He heard the man call him ''Crow''. He gave a visible wince then. His antics hadn't gone unnoticed in Gear but the thing was that his Father and Brother were the real Crows, he was just a mute one. He didn't like the name, but he couldn't blame the man for that. Just as he was about to speak, another man entered the clearing and sat on a rock staring at him and Shigure. Shinta was nowhere to be found. That was not good. The new man muttered a few words to himself then asked if he and Shigure were the Gia shinobi he'd be working with. Analysing the sentence, Ken deduced that the man wasn't from the village, but if the Kage put them in the same team, he was definitely affiliated with Gia. The cigarette started tasting bad in his mouth, so he spat it out and crushed it underfoot. He turned to Shigure and the new man. ''I'm assuming both of you can speak Giaku fluently. The name is Ken.'' Ken said in his home language, looking especially at Shigure. ''I'm good at getting into places unnoticed. I can also speak Koda very well. I also have a jutsu that can make us share thoughts instead of speaking. Ken looked at them, both now. Holding their gazes. The utilization of collective skills would make this mission a success or not. So it was best everyone knew what each other was capable of in the least. ''What are you guys bringing to the table? And, does anyone know the direction to the nearest Fang Country town or village?'' Edited by Lestat, Dec 16 2013, 02:38 PM.

Shigure saw the newest arrival - a bandless, by his appearance and introduction - and noted the attitude with which the man addressed the two Gia shinobi. Bandless always thought themselves above the villages in Shigure's experience. They had to answer to no one. They were their own masters, which was fine. But that also made them unpredictable, and that made them a liability in Shigure's eyes. He nodded politely, not bothering to introduce himself. Bandless were never around for long. When Crow started talking in Giaku, it gave Shigure something to focus on. And his native tongue was still more easy for him than Common. Another unfortunate necessity, Common at least kept trade routes open and villages talking to each other. Diplomacy would be a terrible complexity otherwise. "I'm good at capturing and assassinating targets. I've some skill with chakra detection as well. I am... particularly difficult to sneak up on. The nearest village is just a few kilometers south beyond the border, a trade village by one of Kodachi's smaller river inlets. Tagode, if I recall. Here, a map." Shigure brought out his map of Kodachigakure. He had acquired it roughly one year ago on an unrelated mission. It was still up to date on all the important sites in Kodachi, such as trade and hunting posts and important routes through the country. A few isolated paths were marked that indicated they were not widely used, but the map's focus was simply on major sites and cities. "Any border village will do well as a starting point. They are accustomed to seeing foreigners, even shinobi from other countries. Most people there hold no strong loyalties to one village or another. Trade and coin are their language, and these types of locales are good places for missing nin to hide. We won't find the location of Kodachigakure here, but we might find a good trail to follow." Shigure looked up from the map at his fellow shinobi. His expression clearly suggested he thought this was the best course of action, but he also understood the dynamics of working on a team. If they decided on a different course, Shigure would follow... or force them to follow him, if he deemed their alternate course of action markedly stupid or foolhardy. |

"The language of coin you say?" Takeo would finally perk up at the beautiful sound of money coming to his ears. He would leap up from his little perch to actually join the other two who had been talking. Until that point he'd pretty much dosed off. Something about Kodachigakure and foreigners. He didn't really pick up much else, not of too much interest. Once he was by the other two he would take out a rather large bag of coins and dangle it in front of them. "I'm quite fluent in that side of things. Takeo Fennikusu by the way, pleasure to meet you fine people." He would put away the large bag in his coat before something caught his nostrils. Smoke. Smoke was created by fire. Fire is bad. He would look around frantically only to see the stamped out butt from Ken's cigarette. He would take a deep breath in, there wasn't any fire. That was good. "I have only one rule when working. No smoking, in fact, no fire of any kind anywhere near me. Not unless everyone wants to end up blown sky high. Anyway, on a lighter note, lets go interrogate people." Takeo would go to run off into the forest only to stop abruptly. "Which way is it we're going?" Whoever would be kind enough to either lead or answer him he would follow. He was always better at point and shoot anyway. |

Shigure was more familiar with the area at least he'd been here before. Ken had never been here, his knowledge of the country's language was taught to him by his jounin-sensei who knew many languages and taught them to his students. Takeo had money. It wasn't as though Ken hadn't brought some also, but it was good that it was enough as they may have to loosen tongues and buy their way out of tight corners during this. Ken listened to every word they both said. He briefly glared at Takeo when he mentioned the no smoking rule. No one comes between him and his smokes. He'll have one whenever he wanted one. If it were no drinking, he wouldn't have had problems with it. He kept all this inside though. I suggest we converse in Giaku until we have time for me to properly administer my fuuinjutsu, then we won't really be using our mouths unless its necessary. Shigure, you have the map and know the area, we'll follow your lead. I hope you can both see clearly in moonlight. |

Shigure nodded at the other two. One spoke the native tongue. The other brought money to pay for information. The bandless was proving to be more useful that Shigure had anticipated; those not working for regular contracts under a village typically did not have enough cash to spend on information. That was a positive sign for his abilities as well - not to mention that the Kage agreed to send a bandless, one in particular, along with two of the village shinobi. Wordless, Shigure rolled up his map and placed it back in the tube container, which fit comfortably over his shoulder. He wasn't great at nighttime functioning, but he could work passably. The trails were easy to follow, and walking the open path was safe enough. A borderland trade village might note their passing, but it wouldn't raise any unusual questions. None of them wore headbands, so none of them seemed to be on official business. "When we reach the trade outpost, we'll need to head to the local tavern. There's likely only one big one to go to. Our best bet is to get someone good and drunk. A shinobi from their village would be even better. Are either of you notably good drinkers, or should we find a different approach?" Whatever they decided, it would be after roughly an hour of walking that they would arrive there, at the border town of Nubara. It was a bustling trade outpost, with streets lined with merchants and traders. Goods of all sorts could be bought at some stall or street vendor, but the real good were in the established buildings and businesses. There, the real valuables could be found. And near the center of town, the village center stood two stories higher than any building around it. There, all village government and trade was regulated. And just a few buildings down was the tavern, a big building full of drunks night and day. Edited by Serenity, Dec 22 2013, 11:33 AM.

Takeo would simply follow Shigure as he led the way to the border town, listening to the words of the shinobi, rattling out a plan as they walked. Takeo was rarely teamed up with shinobi so it was interesting to see how they functioned, namely because it gave Takeo more information for future reference should he so need it. If he could understand the way shinobi worked then his skills would become increasingly valuble to those looking to hire him. "Eh I suppose I can take the lead on that front. Suppose a shinobi would be good, just got to be careful with that. A trader would be good as well, getting them to open up about their work is a lot easier than getting a shinobi to open up about what they do." He had swapped into Giaku as to follow suite with the other two, though wondered if his comment would entice some response but he somehow doubted that. They both seemed like ones to stay relatively to themselves, exceptionally focused on the mission at hand which was somewhat respectable considering the fact that if they mess up then they could be stricken from Giagakure for good. Was nice not having that lingering axe for Takeo, though he lived with a form of it on every job he did, this one included, though usually a barrage of explosions act as a decent enough cover. And so they would arrive in the town, it very clear where the tavern was, namely due to all the drunks stumbling in and around it. It was a constantly nice sight, namely because no matter where you went, it was always the same. That home from homes, and not to mention a good place for jobs. "Let's get started then. Ken can get the first round." |

They got to the small village quickly. The distance from their meeting point hadn't seemed great. Ken found it amusing that the village's tavern was still bustling with activity this time of night. That was a good sign, it seemed certain that they'd find someone that would be "kind" enough to give them what they wanted. Walking into the tavern, Ken wasn't disappointed. It was just as he thought it would be. Its tables were almost filled up and he could hear rapid fire Koda from all corners. He simply took an empty table where he and the others would sit and then began scanning around for the signs of shinobi of the Kodachi border patrol who were off duty or were busy slacking off. Can't a honest man get some service here?! Ken called out in Koda after settling down. He then switched back to Common instead of Giaku to address the other two. Keep your eyes out for someone you think we should buy more drinks for. He also wanted to tell them to keep their wits about them in case any trouble started. |

The fluffy one

The tavern was indeed busy. From looking around Ken was able to distinguish at least six different groups of men and woman ranging between two and five, most however were groups of three. There were also four individuals by themselves. Of the groups the largest was a group of five they looked to be celebrating the birthday of one particular fellow at the center of their two tables. Next was a group of weathered looking men drinking together and muttering with sober looks on their faces despite their rosy cheeks and several empty glasses between them. Of three groups of three, one is a group of teens in high spirits, one a group of men with similar kimono's that showed signs they had been wearing armor, and the last group was two men and a woman who seem to also be in a good mood, though more controlled then the first group. Last of the groups was one of two women who seemed happy chatting with each other. The four individuals were the most varied. One was a pale youthful looking guy who looked like he was just reaching his later teens, barely old enough to be drinking. He had long black hair, heavy and dark clothing and looked like he did his make up in the dark given how think he'd made his eye shadow. He was busy writing in a small book and looking into space. Next was a man with brown hair hair set into a que sitting at the bar. He seemed to prefer the more traditional dress of a kimono, but had a rather large sword wrapped in cloth resting against the bar beside him. He also had another viable blade in the form of a kodachi sheathed at his waist. It was hard to see what he was doing other than probably drinking. After him was a woman lounging at a table by the wall using the wall itself to support the back of her chair while her feet rested on the table. She wore more modern clothing with a paperboy's hat, white shirt, light blue vest, and blue jean. It was also quite evident that she wore sneakers. She busied herself with twiddling a tiny paper umbrella between the fingers of one hand while holding her drink in the other. Last was a cheerful looking fellow with long greasy looking hair that was brown going on gray. He clutched a large mug in his gnarled hands and seemed to be watching the people in the tavern his eyes quickly darting from one group to the next. His clothing consisted of a heavy cloak with an old looking brown shirt under it. It was hard to tell what kind of pants or shoes he wore as his was one of the darker corners of the room. The only other people in the tavern were a young serving girl who was currently helping the large party, a young man tending the bar and a large man with a thick gut, broad shoulders, a short orange beard, and balding head. When Ken called out he received a few looks of varied levels annoyance and/or dismissal, it was then the large man who came to the table leaving the group of men in kimonos. He however wore fairly basic cloths with a white shirt and black jeans topped with a well used apron that had a rag sticking out of it's pocket. He addressed the group in common. "Wells, he could, if'n he could wait his turn like everyone else. 'Course he could also make a pest of himself an' maybe jus' maybe get it sooner, but that tends t' bother th' locals, an' it's best not t' cheese off th' locals. What'll it be?" If they were trying to spot forehead protectors the only ones visible were on the group of young men, the closest one having it on his hip and another having one around his neck. There were no others. However, the group's walking chakra radar would definitely make out a few. Aside from their team, there were two relatively low level signatures, three slightly stronger probably C ranked, one about the same level as theirs, and one other large one, probably A rank in level. 'Best not t' cheese off th' locals' indeed. Edited by Cain, Dec 28 2013, 03:49 AM.

OOC: I'm so sorry! I didn't realize it was my turn, I thought we were waiting for someone else. Quick post now, I might edit it to be longer later. IC: Shigure watched as Ken worked his magic. For the moment, all the bandless had managed to do was irritate the crowd. Still, he was now the center of attention, which suited Shigure just fine. It wasn't Shigure's style to do the negotiating. He tended to be the interrogator and the captor instead. So he sat back and took inventory of who all was present. The locals were predictable enough for bar patrons. There were partiers, shinobi taking a break, and others just relaxing after a long day. It was Shigure's chakra sense that helped him gauge who they were up against. There were a bunch of C-rank level chakra signatures; those probably belonged to the boys who had their headbands. That was a genin team if he ever saw one. There was also one at roughly their own level, and one greater than their own. Shigure was immediately on guard, as he knew it would mean trouble if they started something. It was a risk they had to take, unfortunately. Shigure decided he would allow the bandless to do whatever he had planned. Meanwhile, Shigure would keep an eye out for anything, particularly movement related to the two largest chakra signatures. In short, Shigure resigned himself to watching Takeo's back while Takeo potentially pissed off a heavy hitter. With any luck, Shigure might be able to keep the man from being the unfortunate victim of a surprise attack. |

OOC: But... Takeo hasn't even done anything... yet... how can he irritate already? T_T *sniff* IC: As Takeo waltzed through the door and into the tavern he was met by an all too familiar smell. The smell... of a good time. Well it seemed in poor taste not to enjoy oneself when in such an apt situation, or at least to Takeo it did, particularly when there were celebrations already. He would follow Ken up to the bar, waiting until the barman had finished his little rant at his partner. "Lighten up Ken, we're here to enjoy ourselves before we finally have move on, and besides, we're here for one simple reason." Takeo would simply go over to an empty table and leap on top, balancing perfectly, ready to address his audience. "Apologies barman, I'll ensure your table isn't damaged but, everybody, its my good friend Ken's brithday and we've come for a little fun so in a bid of good will, a round on me for all." With that Takeo would simply jump down off the table and give a nod to the barman as he walked over to the end of the bar away from all others. He wanted to have a good look at who went for the free drinks and who remained still. Plus it would be interesting to see how Ken would respond to his 'birthday'. Though by doing this, as much of the attention as drew to himself and Ken, it also gave them a reason to be there and a decent cover. Of course he might have temporarily annoyed the barman but then again, he was about to get a lot of money which isn't necessarily a bad piece of compensation. |
