A bit off the tangent here, but what do you guys think of the 3D television displays releasing later this year?

Sorry, I was living in a vault for 50 years or so. But what are 3D television displays? What does it do? When is it coming out?

Gears of War 2 in 3D

Sony's 3D TV Plan

3D televisions are just what they sound like. They turn images three dimensional by using glasses, similar to the ones used in theaters.

The links I posted supply some interesting info about 3D TV technology, check 'em out if you'd like :)

George Lucas is only spending 10 million to update the entire saga? Granted James Cameron had put the cost of developing the technology into that hefty price tag for making Avatar - 10 million seems to be definitely in the low end of the cost spectrum. Sounds like this will be a bit cheesy - not unlike the Clone Wars cartoon and most of his dialogue! ;)

As for the implementation of the technology, all Sony 3D TVs will come with a small piece of hardware that lets the set display 3D content while at the same time still working as a standard television. In the short term you'll still need to wear special 3D glasses, which aren't expected to come bundled with the televisions and could run up to $200 each.

There is no way I'm paying an extra 200 dollars for a pair of 3D glasses. Is it possible to just use the 3D television without the glasses at all?

$200 for 3D glasses? wow those things are so uncomfortable. Please don't let this become the future of film!

Star Wars doesn't need to be in 3D, but as long as the trench run, the asteroid field and the podrace look awesome and the rest doesn't suck, then I'm ok with it.
