The Giving Pledge

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have teamed up and convinced 38 other billionaires to give away half their wealth. George Lucas is among them.

Exact numbers regarding Lucas' donation haven't been released, but Forbes lists him as number 97 on their richest-guys-in-America list from last year.

[...]

See, all your Jar Jar action figures actually were worth buying after all.

I feel sorry for Lucas' children. They won't be getting a damn thing if he continues like this :P

Like they wouldn't have enough money when they did this. Of course it has to be a publicity stunt. If you're really a good guy, then give away your income to the point where you're as poor as the peope you give the money to.

Anyways that's just my opinion. Good news for the receivers of the money I guess.

Not nesacerily a publicity stunt, i know if i had that money, & i wanted to give some of it out, i'd give about half, if i was as rich as Lucas, i certainly wouldn't give it all away...

But does it have to be world news? No.

Why shouldn't it be world news? Geoge Lucas, who is a billionare, is putting half of his fortune into a charity focused on improving education, which will help countless kids. Sure he'll probably make it all back eventually, but that is truly genorous and kind to give half of what you have to people who truly need it.

Lucas and all these other billionares, including Bill Gates, work hard for their money, so I disagree with that "give it all away" concept. If you worked hard all your life and made a lot of money, I bet that you wouldn't want to give all of it away just to say you're a good guy. No sane person would.

Those who work their way up have earned it, and that's the American Dream that everyone (at least in my country) tries to achieve. There's a fine line between being charitable, and being foolish. Giving ALL your money away, instead of some, makes someone cross that line.

Lucas has always invested in education and this is just another example of that. The insinuation that it's a publicity stunt is ridiculous. Giving away over a billion dollars is not a publicity stunt, it's a very generous gesture from him and the other billionaires doing the same.

I couldn't agree more :)
