Advancements are a more creative way to individually customize your characters normal techniques.

Basically any jutsu can be improved in one manner or another, adding a large field of individuality to a character, even it they are of same heritage, and have the same technique.

Usually techniques will be listed with a set of advancements costing a certain amount of Exp. By spending the stated amount of Exp. An advancement is taken and the jutsu may be edited as applicable. When an advancement is taken, it should be marked as shown:

Quote:

[Japanese Element] English Name [Japanese Translation]
There would be a paragraph here detailing what happens when the jutsu is used.
| Chakra: ## | Effect: (Usually damage)- ?? | Rank | anything else goes here
  • Advancement - # Exp. |
    Advancement - # Exp.

Which therefore means multiple advancements would be marked as such:

Quote:

[Japanese Element] English Name [Japanese Translation]
There would be a paragraph here detailing what happens when the jutsu is used.
| Chakra or Stamina (in come cases both)- ## | Effect (Usually damage)- ?? | Rank | anything else goes here
  • Advancement - # Exp. |||

As previously mentioned, jutsu may increase in rank when enough experience has been spent on a jutsu.

Quote:

E-Rank to D-Rank: 25 Exp.
D-Rank to C-Rank: 25 Exp.
C-Rank to B-Rank: 50 Exp.
B-Rank to A-Rank: 75 Exp.
A-Rank to S-Rank: 100 Exp.
S-Rank to K-Rank: 150 Exp.

In the case that an advancement would increase the experience past the amount between ranks, the overflow counts towards the next rank. In addition, whenever the jutsu changes rank the color of the advancements when marked also changes. The colors are as follows:

Quote:

E-Rank - white
D-Rank - yellow
C-Rank - orange
B-Rank - green
A-Rank - blue
S-Rank - red
K-Rankgray

Some advancements may have a max amount of time you can take them or cost more with each successive taking of the advancement. These are illustrated with a term that comes after the EXP amount and is given in brackets ("[" and "]"). The list of terms and their meanings are as follows:

Quote:

[Inc: #] – Incremental. This means that the EXP the advancement cost increases by the number in place of # each time the advancement is taken.

Quote:

[Inc Delay X: #] – This denotes an increase to the amount of EXP an advancement requires once it's taken but only after it has been taken X times.

Quote:

[Max: #] – This simply means that the advancement can only be taken the number of times denoted in place of #.

Quote:

[Rank Max: #] – This notation means that an advancement can only be taken so many times in each rank, but does accumulate. Meaning, E-Rank:[Rank Max: 1] → D-Rank:[Rank Max: 2]

Quote:

[N-Rank] – This tag means that the advancement cannot be taken until the jutsu is the displayed level. Period.

Quote:

[Unique (Letter) - X] – This means that the advancement is mutually exclusive to another unique advancement in the same technique of the same Letter, such as A, B, or C. Typically, this can more readily be done without the number (X), but the number is used for the [Follow] tag. Should multiple sets of advancements be exclusive to each other, change the numbering system or color code which tags are mutually exclusive to each other.

Quote:

[Follow (Letter) - #:#] – This term simply follows the unique term or is connected to itself. Often times advancements are made requiring another that could only be taken once. This term defines which advancement is required within the same jutsu in order to be taken. This does not imply that this advancement may only be taken once.

Quote:

[Transfer: English Name [Japanese Translation]] – On occasion an advancement will be shared among multiple techniques. This notation is used to define which other technique(s) receive the bonus from this advancement. Please note that you can use numbers instead of the entire jutsu name.

Example advancements:

eg1

  • Increase damage by 1 – 2 EXP [Inc: 1]
This advancement simply starts costing two EXP. Once it's taken, the cost increases by 1 since that is the number given by the Increment. So, the second time this advancement is taken it will be three EXP and the third will cost four EXP.

eg2

  • Increase post duration by 1 – 2 EXP [Inc Delay 2: 1]
This advancement also starts at two EXP, but unlike the previous it will increase every second time it is taken. So, the first time the advancement is taken the amount is two EXP as is the second. The third, however, will increase this amount to three EXP. This can be used in instances in which difficult growth would be obvious, but debilitating to spend. No universal technique uses this advancement so if you don't understand it, don't worry.

If you have any questions about these terms please contact an available staff member.
