How is Wizards handling Kaijudo?

like the topic says, I know its a bit early, but how do you feel about Wizards handling of Kaijudo so far? I think they learned from their mistakes with DM and are giving the pack regular names (Evo-Fury vs Evo-Crushinators of Doom) which will show that the game has a sense of maturity to it, I think that was a major problem with DM originally I'm looking forward to the new set and what it will bring to the game. Given a few years I think Kaijudo can claim its own stake in the TCG Market if Wizards keeps applying what they learned with Duel Masters to Kaijudo. So my question to the community, give us your opinion on Kaijudo and how you think it'll evolve as new sets are released and time goes on?

Could you explain more about deck names in DM vs Kaijudo? I never thought that was an issue. I always assumed because people felt it was a ripoff of MTG and yu-gi-oh. It came out doing the time when trading cards were in frenzy and it probably got pushed to the sidelines.

I'm just saying that in the original Duel masters, the English booster names were kind of... gimmicky.

I would say Duelmasters first expansion Evo-Crushinators of Doom was more an over the top self parody, then gimmicky in comparison to Kaijudo's Evo Fury. While the Wayans brothers proved twice for me that this can be done well w/ Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and White Chicks, more often they fail w/ everything else done in the same manor. So it's smart marketing to use the more serious names for Kaijudo. But I miss that zany lack of taking yourself too seriously from the Duelmasters set names. Like the new cost of classic cards such as [card]Bronze-Arm Tribe[/card] it doesn't keep me from liking Kaijudo. The essence of the game is still the same and it's both fun and a strategic.

We'll be seeing more in just a few weeks once Kaijudo hits Target, Toys'r'Us, and Wal-Mart just how well wizards is selling this game to the masses. For what they've done up till now for the internet and WPN stores I think they've been hitting it out of the park. I have not seen that big of a buy in locally though and that does worry me. The game is very young yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it becomes another Pokemon for them. No chance it will be as big as Magic the Gathering, but it could become another Pokemon size success story.

Actually, given enough time I think that it can become on the same level as Magic... and Wizards failed with Pokemon, Nintendo bought it out and has been taking care of it since

There have been some important steps up taken by Wizards, but also some concerns. We're in limbo until we see how well the general public accepts the core set and thus the "release" of Kaijudo.

Big good steps: better show, seriously needed it to attract new players. Really cool that they are actively using twitter and have community managers spoiling cards and rewarding a loyal fanbase.

Causes for concern: They seem to be slightly over-relying on the loyal fanbase to be the hype machine for this game. Advocacy is wonderful and essential at this point, but when we drive to several stores asking for the battle decks and find them at ONE... that doesn't make me feel as confident. I understand the idea of HAVING the advocates visit multiple stores requesting this game, but if the product has a shelf date I expect the store owners to be aware of the product by then. 90% of the time our reaction to asking for Kaijudo was "what game?" And we had to literally point to the sign on the store window they are given to put up.

Set contains 180 cards but roughly 70 reprints. That means we're essentially getting a 120 card base set again, give or take some jank cards. If other sets are 180 and 120 this is fine, but 60 card sets in Duel Masters every 3 months = really hard on the wallet for a game the store owners can't recognize by name. I want to feel safe having a day where I splurge on a bunch of Kaijudo cards, and that day just isn't here yet.

Any idea when stores like Walmart will be getting packs in? I'm hoping once the next series is released on Friday, I'll see a little more support from the stores around me (local and bigger chains).
