Took the dogs out this morning, including our newest additions, Rebel and Chance. Rebel is the young male we brought back from Kenneth Smiths house there in Tennessee and this was his first hog hunt with us. Didn't expect much from him other than him just having a good time, but he exceeded our expectations and the video speaks for itself. We were stopped at a little creek waiting on the dogs to work a track. Jack and the twins, Heather and Lilly, were off to our left in the brush and I felt like they were on a track and trying to make heads or tails of it. Ty was in the brush to our right about 50 yards in. Rebel and Chance were down at the creek doing nothing, just getting a drink and being puppies. Now mind you, Rebel has been baying the cows here at my house but had never seen a hog until today. Well I had my back to the creek, which was about 20 yards away and I was facing Emily and Tracy, who could both see the creek behind me. Emily made a comment and her eyes were bugged out at something behind me. I turn back to the creek and there's a 175lb boar hog standing at the creek looking at us and Rebel is on this side of the creek and about 15 feet from the hog with Chance on the opposite side and about 20 feet from the hog. The two dogs are looking at the hog, the hogs looking at us, and we're just wondering what's about to happen? The hog was between the two dogs and didn't seem to care one bit. He finally, after about 10 seconds, trots to our right and dissappears in the brush. Rebel ran after him and we aren't sure what Chance did. About that time all four of the big Kemmers came in and all hit the track there at the spot we had seen the hog and the race was on. From the time we last saw the hog until the Kemmers took off couldn't have been more than 20 seconds, so he didn't have a big lead on them. They ran him about 100 yards and got him bayed. We roll up and the bay is on the opposite side of the creek, so we lead the bulldogs in on a leash. At ten yards we cut them loose and the fight is on. It last just a couple of seconds and we could see white dogs and the hog going at it. He breaks and the Kemmers get him stopped about 30 yards away, now back in the creek. We run up and look down to see a solid caught hog. I didn't want Emily in the mud and water with him so I tossed her a camera and I jumped in and legged him, Tracy came in and finished it. I don't remember seeing Chance or Rebel in the water when I went in, not sure where they were, but I was kinda busy so didn't look too hard. After we got the bulldogs off and took them back to the atvs, Tracy drove back in with his atv so we could drag it up and out of the water. When I got there, I heard a dog barking and looked over the ledge to see Rebel in with the pig and he was giving him a mouth full. Now granted, I realize the hog is dead, but this dog has never seen a hog before and when he saw it a few minutes earlier at the creek, I'm sure his brain was trying to process what this weird new animal was since it didn't fit into his known world. Now here he is, up close and personal and he was getting fired up. Ended up being the only hog we caught today, but all in all, I'm very pleased with Rebels performance. Thanks Kenneth for sending him south to the land of thorns and burrs, hopefully we'll help him along the path to becoming a fine hog dog. And as my luck runs, my video sunglasses have died and gone to the trash heap, so no action video for a while, but hopefully I'll get me a new pair for my birthday next month. That's great news Dee. Not surprising to me that a tight bred Blondie lll would do well as Blondie lll is the grandmother of most well bred Kemmers that we keep hearing about. |

Dee, Here's a female out of the same litter. I sent her to Nathan Reistad in North Dakota. He is using her as a decoy.

That decoy dog stuff amazes me. I watched a video on YOUTUBE and that was pretty neat stuff. I haven't taken Rebel out since that first hunt, but hope to do so again either on Friday or Saturday? |
