I thought I would write about when I met the Kemmers in 1988 and tell a little history of the Cajuns going to the mountains...haha.I knew cousins of Robert Kemmer from Gulfport Ms. Norman Kemmer who was a real hog hunter and it was Norman and his son Mitch who told me about a cousin in Tn. who had a breed of curs that he developed and that really got my attention because I knew what kind of eye Norman had for good dogs and also knew how good of a hunter he was and I figured I could not go wrong following this bloodline...Kemmer bloodline that is...y wife Anita and my 2 sons Ernie and Todd drove up to the mountains in a single cab 1/2 ton pickup and after 12 hrs of traveling we were happy to get out of that truck. We spent the night at Charle and Miss Agnes Kemmers who were the parents of Norman . Charlie took us out to Robert Kemmers the next day. I met the man and his family who I now refer to as The Ole Man on The Mountain. Robert Kemmer being the gentelman that he is gave me a cap to wear that night at my first OMCBA meeting.I still hear today about the shock that was was seen on the faces of some of the older members that night at the meeting when they saw what was on my cap...lol...I being from south louisiana thought of it as normal to wear a CAP |

I met Robert on Thanksgiving Day 2001. I had called and made plans to meet him on my way to Alabama with the family. We got to his house in the morning. We looked at all the pups he had there but I wanted one younger so my kids could really hold and play with it. We drove over to Robert's Dad's farm. There he had a litter 5 weeks old out of TC Target and Dream Team Mandy. We all picked the biggest male pup except my daughter Samantha. She wanted a different one. She started crying ( as girls do ) to get her way. Robert says under his breath "they do better is pairs". I really didn't have the money for two pups. Robert pretty much gave us the second pup. He said he couldn't stand to her a kid cry. He have the pups their shots and wormed them. I had to help look through his filing system for the papers. It takes awhile to look through 3 Wal-Mart bags. Robert then invited us to stay for Thanksgiving dinner. My relatives were waiting on us so we had to decline. Those were the best two dogs a man could ever own. Bocephus was shot at 18 months old. Ruger got hit by a car this past Memorial Day. You people that live close enough to Robert for weekly visits don't realize how lucky you are. |
