I'm planning on trying to make some of my own. I can buy molasses for 78 cents a gallon and plan to use hog feed. Should have appx 2.00 in a 10lb feeding block....

I couldn't get the molasses to cook down enough to harden properly. I use 4 cups of sugar, 1 1/4 cups corn syrup, 1/4 cup molasses, 1/2 cup water. Put water in pan and bring to boil. Add other ingredients and bring to rolling boil. COOK A LONG TIME, approximately 20 minutes or more. Pour into cool whip bowl and allow to cool completely. Use a drill to drill hole in the center of candy. Use a wood screw to attach to tree. You can also add other flavoring or scents to the mixture as it cools. If you try to add anise oil or vanilla oil ( not extracts) while mixture is too hot, the oil will evaporate out. Good luck to all.

Thanks! I will try that next week. Are the coons hitting it?

Yes! The coon are hitting it. You can tell when activity starts by watching for coon hair.

You can adapt the recipe for squirrels by deleteing the molasses and using straight Karo syrup and corn chops. Put the chops in as the mixture cools.

Not only is it more hidden, but when the coon candy melts it stays in the bark of the tree and coon will come to it even if you can't get back in time to replace it. Good luck, guys.
