I have had curs for about 7 years and Hunted real hard the first 4 or so. When hunting hard Black Gold was the best feed for my dogs. Now that I Don't hunt 5-7 days a week year around, I am lucky to be able to get in the woods 2 days a week, Sportmix, Prime, River Run and Diamond all work good for me.... Right now went back to Diamond just because I can get a good deal on it.... I always feed 26-18 in the winter all of these have that blend and If I am feeding Sportmix, Black Gold or Prime I feed 22-16/23-16 in the summer... |

I feed feed plain ole Purina dog chow in the summer and switch to Purina Pro Plan (Performance Blend) in the fall and during hunting season. The Pro Plan is expensive but you feed less than half of what you do when feeding the dog chow and the dogs do great. Purina rep talked me into it and said that you would be able to tell the difference in the dogs stamina. He has made a believer out of me! When dogs get tired it seems as though they dig a little deeper and just keep getting stronger. I feed my curs only 1 cup/day and the beagle between 1/2 and 3/4 cup/day of the performance blend and their in great shape. The feed is hot (30% protein and 20% fat) and if you feed them too much, you will notice it QUICK! They will get too heavy within a week. Sounds like I'm trying to sell the Pro Plan but I'm not, there are other good feeds out there; this one just works well for me and in the long run it is cheaper to feed than many others! |
