I was talking to Biggun earlier today and we kicked around the idea of a KSBA hog hunting get together. The obvious problem is the location. One that is somewhat convenient to all members, say in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, or East Texas? I know on another website, they have at least one get together a year for their members to run dogs on hogs. It started out small and on private lands, then grew in size and now is done on state lands north of Houston as I recall? It required each hunter to have a state license along with a special permit to hunt the state lands that cost around $25? I'm not familiar with other states, not sure if there are places like this where we could get a hunt organized or not, but it's worth a try. I don't know how big a turn out we'd get and I'm not saying it has to be sanctioned KSBA hunt. I, for one, would just love to run my dogs in the same woods as some of the best the Kemmer lines have to offer. Just being in the woods with dogs that belong to Biggun, Mr Kemmer, Rob Day, the McLains, and any of the others I've failed to mention that run their dogs on big game would be a great honor to me and enough of a reward in itself. So is their anyone out there that might have a suggestion or two on making this a reality? Any and all ideas are welcome. And ALL KSBA members would be welcome. |

Dee, I think that would be a good idea! We need to work on that for the future! |

Realistically, we'd probably have to shoot for this spring or even next winter? The biggest hurdle that I see is getting a location that has a fair number of hogs. Doesn't have to be over run with them, but big enough to roam and with enough hogs to make it worthwhile and give the dogs a fair chance of finding the hogs. The location could be smaller if high fenced to contain the dogs. Heck, even a 1000 acre place under high fence with a decent number of hogs would do. You'd have to hunt the dogs in a rotation of some sort? Maybe limit the number of dogs each member could enter? Say each member bring their best 2 dogs? And hunt in small groups of 6 to 8 each? I don't know, just talking out loud here. <_< I know a lot of the big games fellas aren't too active on the internet, maybe the word could be spread and we could generate some interest? |

I definately want in on this! I have no idea where the center of the Kemmer world is but I've been told by Todd Hickman that there are hogs in his area of South Arkansas. I'm supposed to go there in January or February of 2008. It may be worth checking out. Let me know if I can be of service. Loyd. |

You can count out an organized Hog Hunt down here, to many guys that do it and to much private land and leased land, you would end up somewhere you werent' suppost to be quick, with 1 or 2 people you can get by with it but a group or several groups would just spell out a lot of trouble...TH |

TH, A friend that deer hunts down your way tells me that there is some public WMA there with a few hogs on them. I have no idea how many acres the WMA's consist of or of how many acres a hog covers but it sure sounds like fun! I can't hardly wait for my first outing. Can anyone on here tell me where the center of the Kemmer world is? Is there an area of the U.S. that contains more Kemmers than elsewhere? My guess would be Tennessee. |

Your guess is probably close to right. These dogs orginated on the Cumberland Plateu and in the Cumberland mtns of TN. If you have never been to this area of the world you have to make the time to go just for the scenery plus this is where Robert Kemmer grew up and lives. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Wendy |

That's why I was figurin' somewhere east of Texas and west of the Carolina's, south of Tennesse? I went to the Alabama website for fish & game and saw several WMA's that had hogs? Surely someone living in Alabama knows something about them or maybe knows a game warden to ask? |
