Guys, my sorry mutts made 13 trees, I saw 4 squirrels and finally on the last tree(lucky 13), I was able to knock out Mullets FIRST SQUIRREL and maybe Dukes also as I just got him this year.

The cover was thick and the few sq. I saw were wild. Sure is tough training by yourself with a .22 but I do not start my dogs with older dogs. I like to start them as pups by themselves or with another pup.

Mullet impressed me this weekend. He has the winding ability of his only grandsire, Turbo. He had first tree on 11 trees.

They have a long way to go but I am liking what I see so for!!

Charlie it is good to see you making progress with those 2 young dogs in such horrible conditions. Looks like as Hank Jr. says A Family Tradition to me. I took out Hank yesterday and he treed 1 time in a den tree full of holes. I will be glad to get some cold weather to get the leaves off the trees. It will make things easier for the young dogs and the Cajun.

But I might have some duck dogs. Duke and Mullet just treed a duck last night. Rumors must be true that Kemmers have Lab in them. lol.

Duke and Mullet went into some cutover(surprise) and I heard Duke locate and start treeing and mullet joined in. It didn't sound right but I got me .22 and started my routine of climbing over and under trees. I found them at the edge of the cutover treeing on a hollow bay tree. It had three holes about half way up like a red light. After shinning the tree good, I figured whatever they treed was in that hollow bay tree. I tried to get them to come on and they just treed harder. I decided to shoot below the bottom hole to see if anything would move and when I shot I seen something move up the tree to the middle hole. I said-possum! it was black and white looking but sure looked like a lot of white. Could not hardly get all the way to the dogs so I headed back to the gator hollering for the dogs and I shot the gun and headed up the road. when I stopped they were still hammering. I said I am going to have to go back and drag them stupid dogs off a possum tree. I shine the tree again and about that time a duck came out of that hole and flew off making all kinds of racket. It looked like one of those black and white duck you see in folks ponds. Kinda of buggered me when that thing flew out of there.

I called Calvin so he could hear my DUCK DOGS TREEING. I also called Jimmino when I got home and he was picking and said I must have brought my black lab with me. I told him no-I brought two yellow ones. lol

Charlie I think there may have been a coon in one of those holes waiting for the duck to leave so it could get the duck eggs...lol
