Went out this morning with Jack, hoping to tree a squirrel or two. The last several trips have produced nothing but den trees. Have been bothered by a race about every time out lately on the same property and not able to tell what it is. Well today, Jack started a track in the same place as the last several times and was out of hearing in just a few minutes. Then I heard him coming back on the other side of the holler and in a couple of minutes, I caught a glimpse of something running on the hillside across a holler from where I was standing, and when it got to within about 60 yards of me, I could plainly tell it was a bobcat. Well, I took an old single shot 12 guage with 4 shells in my pocket, and wasted one on the cat, he was to far to get him running with a shotgun but had to try. Jack ran it back up the way it had come and into a hole as usual. I'll finally get him. Anyway, after all that, Jack started treeing den tree after den tree as usual but then he made a tree with the meat. I shot it and of course it stuck in a fork. That left me with 2 shells left. He made about 5 more trees, 3 dens, and 2 with the meat so it worked out better than it has in awhile. If I had of taken more ammo, I could have limited out today. Here's a pic after I got back to the truck. Thx for reading all this rambling, James. |

Lookin' good there James, and that plate of fried squirrel sure looks good too....... How's Wintford's pup out of Julie comming along? I haven't heard from him in quiet a while, I am going to try & call him this afternoon, I am home with the flu and can't really do much, I am looking foward to weaning these pups off of Ole Julie and getting her out and treeing me a mess of that Tennessee Squirrel meat up myself...... Jason, the female from buck and Julie is a pretty solid tree dog on both squirrel and coon. He has hunted her quite abit and she has been treeing since she was pretty young. He likes her enough that he is going to sell every dog he has except her and his old Jill female, (the mother of my Jack dog). His health is keeping him from being able to hunt much and he has to young dogs that are treeing their own game and two 3/4 wisconsin buck pups that he has high hopes for but he told me awhile ago that there is no way that he is able to break any more young dogs out to finished. He has worked the Julie pup all summer and she is far enough along to break herself with a trip a week to the woods but he can't do that with all the young dogs so I am going to get out there this weekend and take a few pictures of the other dogs and post them for sale for him. If I had enough room, the wisconsin buck female he has would be here at my house. She is a TREEDOG. I saw her strike and tree her own coon by the time she was 7 months old. He let a fella hunt her a couple of weeks ago that didn't have a dog and he killed 13 coon and 11 squirrels that she treed by herself, she is doing really well. Hope you get feeling better soon, James. |
