I teamed up with my good friend Charlie Gasch again and headed out with our dogs in search of hogs this morning. After several days of nice, cool weather, it was warm and humid.
Charlie's dogs are of mixed cur breeding but I'd say very, heavy in BMC blood? Regardless of their lineage, they are true South Texas Hog Dogs and get the job done. As for me, my oldest and best two dogs are also mixed cur lines. But I'm trying to go straight 100% Kemmer and have a couple of young dogs in my kennel at the time.
One of them is a young gyp out of Biggun's stock. She just turned a year old on Saturday and she's really starting to shine.
We caught 4 big sows today and my young Kemmers held their own, especially for young dogs.
I wanted to post a picture of the first sow. We estimated her to be around 250 lbs, maybe 275. One of my older dogs opened up first and then the others went to her. They were in an area that is really thick in high weeds due to our heavy rainfalls this past summer. It makes it tough on any dog to find and bay a hog. Before we could turn the catchdogs loose, the dogs went quiet? This is not unusual in these weeds. Hogs can easily slip away and the dogs have to rely on their noses to relocate them.
Anyway, after a couple of minutes of silence. My little gyp, Reba, opened up off to our left. She was all alone, bayed, staring at this sow. She had found the hog after it broke and held it there until the others came to help. We got the bulldogs turned loose and the rest is history. I'm sure proud of Reba and the progress that she's making. She had a great hunt today, did a lot of things I wanted to see. I had two other Kemmers along and they too did pretty good as well. You can see one of the other pups in the picture. She's doing ok, but not progressing as fast as Reba.
I liked this picture. Reba looks mighty proud standing on top of this pig. I'm trying my best to do right by Mr Kemmer and his game dogs. I think this picture says it best. :D

Dee, I am glad to see Reba is out of Heat & you are getting to hunt again, Man I have had this flu and haven't been out of the house but to feed the dogs all week this week, I will try & post a picture of Jackie ( Reba's Sister ) in a day or 2 so you can see her as they sure look alot alike, they both look just like the grandma, J&J's 3/4 August...... Anyway, I am glad you had such a good hunt and your male pup is getting fatter everyday...... Biggun

I'VE rocked my babies at nite when they've cried
I've seen their teardrops turn into smiles
that's when I realise all the bad things i've had
all of the good times out weigh the bad.

I'd be lying if I said I could take ONLY my Kemmers to the woods and bay up some hogs. I am still a ways from that, but I don't think it's too far off in the future. That is my goal. Having nothing but Kemmers and getting the job done. People say I'm nuts, tell me I'm wasting my time. I should switch to BMC's or anything but Mt Curs/Kemmers. Call me hardheaded, but I aim to prove them wrong.

I believe in these dogs. I believe in Mr Kemmer.

I'll keep ya posted........... :D
