I was huntin in the big Mtn. last night with my huntin buddy Noah and his Red bone I had Frosty Chunk They run a short race they struck in front of us and ran back by the truck about a 100 feet the redbone came back up the road booger barking Frosty was over the hill just out of the road bawling for all he was worth I walked back to where he was and looked down at him he was looking at a big popular tree like he was baying the tree I have never saw him do this he would run toward the tree and bark and then run backwards towards me and bawling, I walked down to about 20 feet of him and looked around the bottom of that tree which was as big as a refrigirater and and a big black head with eyes glowing like head lights looked around the tree at me a black bear a first for me it would circle the tree and never did run finally I got Frosty close enough to me to get him and I made tracks out of there back to the truck wish I had a camera but I don't know if I would have got a picture or not I was sure caught up in the moment standing 40 feet from a black bear with noting but a dog leash and all I could think of was to get Frosty and get out of thier this was a first for me but our black bear population is growing so it may not be the last!!! Sounds like big game time to me Tim. Bet you don't walk around with just a dog leash anymore! :D

Frosty Chunck is bred to be a big game dog so I want to see some good bear tree pics in the near future!! :)

Now that would have probably had me talking to myself on the run back to the truck :o after seeing something like that with no gun handy.

That would be an exciting hunt for sure, but I make it a point, if I ain't in bed or in church, I always have a gun handy, but in Ky, it would take a lot of explaining if a bear got shot.
I hunt the "PURE" KEMMER MEAT DOGS.
No byproducts!!!!

I had my Smith and wessen K 22 pistol in the truck but I don't think a 22 would be enough gun I have a 45 1911 A1 Spring Field I think it will be on my belt from know on with a full clip if push comes to shove shoot know ask questions later but in Ky. if you are coon hunting it states in our hunting guide that you have to use a rim fire shell cause with a light and a center fire rifle you would get accused of spot lighting deer.

Tim I would much rather try and explain how the bear got all them holes in him instead of them trying to figure out how I got all them holes in me.Big Ronnie

Cool, Sounds like fun Tim! I had a little bear suprise of my own this year when my dogs took a bear track when running a bobcat and ended up way up almost at the top of the mountain in the cliffs and ledges in 3+ feet of snow with Taz and Malt baying him on the edge of a ledge right at the base of a big cliff... I managed to get in there and get em caught up and get down without quite killing myself...

Dee- I had my video camera and got a little footage but he broke bay and ran once I got to about 20 feet or so and I was intent on and determined to cetch the dogs so I wouldn't have to follow em on another run so thefootage wans't real good and I didnt really care... :o :D
