I have killed my fair share of wild hogs & can say that I have never eat a bad one.I have never smelled one that was rank neither unless thier was a busted gut envolved.I hear a lot of people say the same things. Its all got to do with how you handle your meat once it is down.I always try to get my meat in a cooler fast & keep it packed with ice for several days.Draining all the blood is the key to having good meat.If you dont drain all the blood good before you try to cook Im sure the meat would be gamey & rank.Hope this helps!

I agree with baokell. The ones to avoid would be the uncut males above 150 lbs or so. But still, I've heard many people say they taste just fine as well, when handled right?

Thanks for the info.. The one i got was about 4oo pounds and was with sows and uncut . I figured him to be old judging by size and teeth size. i got heart and lung shot so he was not riled up. He was skinned and cut up and on ice within 2 hours. gutted as soon as he quit kicking. when put on a grill it smelled like a billygoat. Guess i will try again.. Thanks for your info.
